I learned to type on a selectric. I was one of a handful of guys in high school who took typing (Thanks Mom!).
I think it’s no coincidence that I’m in IT. Being able to type has been invaluable.
Sure wish I could find a keyboard that had the same touch as a Selectric...
“Sure wish I could find a keyboard that had the same touch as a Selectric...”
That’s what I just said!! :)
Same here. Except I took typing to meet girls. But it backfired because I was only one of two boys in the class and the other boy was a sissy who the teacher made me sit next to (there were two typewriters to a table).
However, typing was the best skill I took out of high school. When I was in the Marines, I got to sit indoors and type out the company newsletters and such while my fellow Marines were out doing busy work or PT. When I got into the workplace, my ability to type moved me up the ladder faster as I didn't have to wait for a "secretary" to type out that report.
When computers came along, I was way ahead of the curve - while my co-workers clumsily pecked along, trying to get out a two-sentence email - I was putting out paragraphs in seconds flat. Even today, I put my two teenagers to shame with my typing skills.
In 1979, I bought my one and only typewriter and it still sits up in the attic someplace.
