WYTHEVILLE, Va., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A gunman with explosives who had held hostages for about eight hours at the Wytheville, Va., Post Office apparently has surrendered, police said.
The man rolled himself onto the street in a wheelchair and was lying on the ground on his stomach as about 20 officers wearing shields approached him, WSLS-TV, Roanoke, Va., reported Wednesday night.
State Police Sgt. Mike Conroy said three hostages have emerged from the building and officers were checking to make sure nobody else was inside.
Police exercised caution because "we don't know what he had," Conroy said, The Wytheville Enterprise reported.

Not bad for a cop's half day's work, ain't it?
Yep, good job.
...damn, they didn’t kill him...
Sometimes it’s sarcasm Cindy.
Well, they didn’t have to. SWAT teams are primarily life saving forces. Killing is only a last resort.
Nice pic of the fatboy in the wannabe military get-up...
I wish I held your optimism.
Send him to Gitmo.
Wait! There must be a mistake here - you can’t have a gun in a post office - that is clearly posted at the entrance of most of them.
I hear the gunman was named Creigh Deeds.
This thread is all over the place lol
Also, Glad this ended well.
They had no one in better shape for this job-?!?! Disgusting-!
