I believe in the words of Jesus Christ, but not in much of what passes for Christian theology.

It’s clear from his teachings that just “believing” without following is not the path. Anyone who sincerely believes his words will follow his instructions and teachings. Not saying anyone has to be perfect in the beginning, but if people think “Jesus will suffer for me, so I can keep on sinning” - then such people are the swine he said not to throw pearls to.

It’s like a wife or husband professing great love and then cheating over and over again.

One’s actions are the proof of the condition of the heart. He taught that good fruit would come from a good tree, and bad fruit from a bad tree.

Pretty simple.

Plus, if a person is experiencing even a drop of love for God, this pleasure and joy makes any temptations the world has to offer look like dry sand. If someone keeps falling again and again into what the world has to offer, it is proof that such as person is not close to God, is not feeling love for Him, nor the love for others that flows from such love. What to speak of simple faith that keeps one determined and strong.

Jesus said to follow him - that doesn’t just mean walking the same dusty paths in the middle east, it means following his words, his teachings, and his example.

John 3:16 is not a lie. You think it is a lie!!!When Christ died on the cross there was a new covenant and the law is over!!! Are you a “professional Christian” wanting people to give you money so you can make your house payment when Christ scoffed at the “Temple Tax” and “tithing” is nowhere in the New Testament? (A “cheerful giver” gives to the poor— NOT professional Christians)
