Just read a small story about Netflix.
Netflix just cut a deal with Time Warner, not to rent Time Warners new releases for a month after release. This will give Time Warner the ability to sell more copies of their new movies for a month, to customers who "just can't wait" to see the new shows.
In exchange for this concession, Time Warner, will sell the DVDs to Netflix at a dicounted rate at the end of that month.
And here comes the point that most interests *me*. They (Rime Warner) will allow netflix a greater level of access to Time Warners library of movies to be able to stream them for Netflix customers! :o)
Netflix expects to cut similar deals with other studios as well in the near future.
I still hate Time-Warner though.
We already have to wait 6 months before they are released on DVD...so now it’s 7 for TW ones?
I like streaming - when I can get it. Netflix, among others, don’t stream outside of CONUS.
Isn’t it beautiful watching The Art of the Deal? And when Netflix sees they have irked some customers, the Deal will be altered so that hopefully, everyone is happy.
Basically, TW and Netflix just told their customers to bend over...
Guess I’m heading to Redbox.
Big Netflix fan - we find enough in the streaming to make it a nice fill in between movies and tv shows that come via mail.
Tied into a HD Tivo its a low cost alternative to cable with a good selection under $20 a month.
Eh, I’ll wait the extra month for more of the oldies streaming to my tv.
New movies mostly suck anyways.
Personally, this isn’t a problem for me. It’s been a long long time, since there’s been a movie out that I couldn’t wait 7 months, or even 8, to see. Fortunately for me, I’m reletively new back to Netflix, and I have found enough content in their present ‘Watch Instantly’ to last me through till good weather, without having to go to the Post Office, or even my mail box. So, I don’t mind waiting till then to get to see the stuff they only have on DVD, like 9The Closer’ seasons, from the beginning, and a few others that I’m somewhere through. I emptied out my DVD queue, mid Decemvber as I saw a sow storm heading my way in a few days time, and have not added a movie to it since. I’ve been quite happy with my Netflix account and have no intention of quitting it. In fact I prefer to get all my movies streamed, but How can I possibly get them to pick all the ones *I* want them to start streaming? >8o)
Basically, TW and Netflix just told their customers to bend over...
Oh..., no really big deal there... for that one measely month (just 30 days), people can always get it on BitTorrent... LOL...
Or any other streaming sites.
Personally, I love Netflix and my biggest problem has been that they don’t stream a lot of newer movies.
This solves my problem.
With every major movie like Avatar, Blind Side, and Lovely Bones(DVD quality) already available free on the internet, I wonder how successful this move will be.
That’s right, movies are free on the internet.
Silly me, paying for a service that actually MAKES money for the movie studios.
I don’t think sdo. I think it was a smart move. Sure there’s an extra months delay, but if there’s a lot more streaming content, and it comes about that Netflix cuts similar deals with several other studios. That just means all the more content for me..and just a couple of clicks away!
I guess I am just past the point where I need to have seen the “latest and greatest” as soon as possible. There’s decades of movies in them thar studio libraries, and hopefully I’ll be mining them for gems in the near future.
Anne Margret! I wanna see you in my streams.
Don’t get me wrong... I really do like NetFlix and have for quite a while. It’s got a great selection and there’s stuff there that you just can’t find anywhere else. You could run all over town in all the video rental places around and never find half the stuff that NetFlix has laying around...
I’m just saying that if they want to “mess with ya”... then you can mess with them, too... :-)
But, actually, even with all the free stuff on the Internet, having Netflix is way too easy of a service to use to give that up...
Unfortunately my net connection, 3g wireless but barely, will only carry a HD stream on it’s best days.
Yeah, I think NetFlix is great, too... I’ve had it for a long time now...
And now since my DH has hooked a computer up to the plasma, I love it even more!
Are you talking about wireless to your broadband service coming into your house, or wireless within your own house (being your own network)?
I know of a wireless service that I was looking into for a relative in Claremore Oklahoma, because wired and cable doesn’t go to his house. I believe he got something from Verizon instead, but that’s a poor option (the way I see it) because they put a cap on the amount of bandwidth you use in a month. If you exceed their “number”, they cut your rate down to the rate of “watching grass grow”... LOL...
He’s just in a bad location for broadband service. Is that your situation or are you saying that your “in-home network” won’t carry it?
it isn’t “free on the Internet”... it is “easy to steal on the Internet”
