Wade Phillips in Dallas Until 2012
Bleacherreport ^ | 21 January 2010 | James Williamson

Posted on 01/21/2010 10:14:57 AM PST by stainlessbanner

First, the Dallas Cowboys' Web site said that they were going to keep Wade Phillips. Then the team said that wasn't official yet. At the end of the day, though, Phillips is still the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

Wade Phillips' contract option was picked up and Jerry Jones added two more years to the deal.

Phillips is 33-15 in three years with Dallas and has a major playoff win over the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

He has taken this team's defense to second overall in the entire NFL. Seven Cowboys are going to the Pro Bowl this year. More can come in if certain players choose to not participate and the Dallas alternate can go instead.

The Cowboys have been known as a team that not only couldn't win it all, but couldn't even stay in the dance. Wade Phillips changed that, and the Cowboys have rewarded him by keeping him in Dallas.

The Cowboys are in the right system now with a playoff win. I cannot wait for next season.

Now, what about Romo? I understand he has an application in at Whataburger for assistant frier.

Romo is coming off his best season ever. 4,483 passing yds, 26 TDs, 280.2 yds/game, 97.6 rating. Compare that with NFL average/leader: 1,540/4770 pass yards, 9/34 TDs, 83.4/113.4 rating.

What Dallas needs is an offensive line that can protect him, a replacement for Roy Williams, and to strip the delayed hand-off from the playbook.

Maybe JJ found out that no other decent coach wants to work for him.

After Flozell Adams went down, Jared Allen went to work. The worst possible injury at the worst possible time. We didn't really have a chance after that.

I'm confident the Saints will beat them, and predict that Favre will go back to his old self and throw 4 or 5 picks. Just make sure your left tackle is healthy.

Hey Coach al_c, please email those three items to Jerry, Wade, and Garrett.

Thanks, it’s not the left tackle I’m worried about. It’s those 11 guys that call themselves Defense.

Some games they show up, others they just show.

I predict if the cowboys lose their first preseason game, the ego-meddler will fire him on the spot.

The defense didn’t play that bad against the Vikes, they held them to 17 points through the 3rd quarter, despite the ineptitude of the offense. Against the league’s best offense, I would take that.

Remember, without Elway, Shanahan is 1-4 in the playoffs (if the redskins ever make the playoffs again).

I wouldn’t brag. You guys try to get rid of the best coach in the division every year. One year you’re going to screw up and get your wish.

That's a reason to keep him? Because he sucks less?

The Cowboys running game was gouging the Vikes early on and controlling the ball. They should have stayed simple and physical with max protection when Romo did need to throw. Going to the passing game as early as they did really put their offensive linemen back on their heels not being able to hear the snap count and not getting enough snaps to wear down that defensive line (say well into the 3re qt). Jimmy Johnson said the same thing. With their huge offensive line they’re built to do just that. That was Jason Garrett’s fault.

Jerry doesn't pull over for a cop while speeding through a school zone. Do you really think he'd listen to little ol' me? LOL!

Though I dislike the Cowboys and Jerry Jones quite a bit (a leftover from the days when the 49ers were a dynasty and the Cowboys were a rival), I do admire Jones' desire to field a winning team every year and have them play in a sparkling new stadium.

But this is an example of the downside of Jones as an owner - the guy has an ego bigger than his stadium and has to be seen in word and deed as #1 in the Cowboys hierarchy. In the depths of losing he turned to Parcells, but he ran off Jimmy Johnson and the rest of his head coaches have been non-entities like Switzer, Gailey and Bum's son Wade. If I were a Cowboys fan, I'd be asking why Sean Payton isn't the head coach and why Jones can't just sign the checks and keep quiet.

There were only two coaches of caliber available: Cower and Shanahan. I am happy with Shanahan. Skins need to fix their O-line and make decisions on a running back and they are back in the hunt. I believe Shanahan knows how to build lines and certainly understands the running game. He built Denver into a winning playoff team. I think he is capable of doing the same here in DC. Further, he has the stature to force our owner to shut up and stay out of the team building process. So I am happy. My guess, we will finish either 1st or second in NFC East if we find a quality LT. I believe the Cowboys have similar problems on the o-line.
