Olympic villain Tonya Harding offered her "deepest sympathy" to Nancy Kerrigan, the woman whose career she forever altered, after the figure skater's father died on Sunday.

Harding's rep told "The Insider" that "Tonya feels very sad for Nancy and her family and extends her deepest sympathy and condolences to them."

The spokesperson said "Tonya's beloved dad, Al Harding, passed away this past April, so she understands the grief Nancy and her family are feeling at this difficult time."

Nancy Kerrigan, who has not spoken publicly since her brother was arrested and charged with assault in connection with the death of Daniel Kerrigan, 70, did not react to her former nemesis' words of support.

Nancy Kerrigan owes much of her success to Tonya Harding. She would not have had nearly the success she did in skating without the “human interest” drama of the clubbing incident.

Harding is an idiot.

If I were Harding I would assume that I was the last person in the world Kerrigan wanted to hear from and keep my mouth shut. At the very least I would wait a few months if I wanted to send sincere condolences.

I would imagine that some reporter asked her for her thoughts. What could she say? “No comment”?

True. Sounds like "an insider" made the comment anyway.

You got a point there.

Although she only won the Silver in the end, not the Gold, even with the broken kneecaps.

It seems natural that Tonya Harding could relate to both the death and the circumstances. Tonya who suffered becoming portrayed in the media as a sort of a sleazy symbol of white trash, while Nancy was considered a model of class, might also be gloating at some level over the story. I am sure Nancy Kerrigan has more important things on her mind either way it was meant.

I agree but...what could she say? Besides, this proves that there is dysfunction in most families.

Still a sad story. The brother was always “trouble”.

I disagree that Kerrigan would not have done as well without the drama of the assault. Kerrigan and Oksana Baoul were the top two female skaters in the world at that time. Harding was a borderline olympian that had a chance at competing for a medal, but no chance of beating Kerrigan. The judges had pretty much decided by the semi-final round that the gold medal was Oksana’s unless she totally tanked in the finals round. Even though Kerrigan outskated her, the judges saved their highest scores for Oksana.

I remember both perfomances, and was naturally rooting for Nancy, being from Massachusetts and considering that she had rehabbed herself as well. I was stunned when the judges gave the Gold to Oksana. I do agree that there was a wave of sympathy for Nancy, but her skating was wonderful anyway.

“I would imagine that some reporter asked her for her thoughts.”

That sounds about right. Someone sticks a microphone in her face,,and she just says how sorry she is for her and condolences.

“The judges had pretty much decided by the semi-final round that the gold medal was Oksana’s unless she totally tanked”

Nice,,, It’s silly to try to score an event that doesnt have an objective measure of success. Only farthest, fastest, highest, etc. should get medals,,, the others are rigged.

I do agree that there was a wave of sympathy for Nancy, but her skating was wonderful anyway.

The ripples of sympathy for Nancy were nothing compared to the tsunami of worship for Oksana because of her "compelling life story" of overcoming such harsh adversity in her childhood and being raised by her skating coach, etc. There have probably been two or three Lifetime Movie Channel movies about her life before and up to winning the gold, and then another two or three about her post-olympic life of drug abuse and recovery.

Too bad they don’t just base their judging on the sport itself and its execution. (sigh)
