They are a good value for the buck and reliable. You can also find a tremendous number of accessories to buy for it.
By the way. Keep the alcohol for after the days hunting and shooting! :-)
I agree with the Bushmaster M4-A3. Keep it simple to start, you can always expand on it later. Also get a sling, at least a dozen mags, a couple thousand rounds of ammo and a good cleaning kit. Get to know the rifle inside and out and practice as much as you can.
