This is in keeping with his character “Pittsburgh Phil” from his guest starring role on THE UNTOUCHABLES. In it he played a high priced hitman who worked without a gun until he encountered a pistol with a superb silencer designed by the very man the mob was going to pay him to kill.
“The Masterpiece” was sorta corny but one of the best UNTOUCHABLES episodes ever.
I’ve always thought one of Torn’s best roles was in a mini-series called “Blind Ambition” done back in the the late 70s, where he portrayed Richard Nixon. His “Nixon” was better than anyone else I’ve seen, even better than Anthony Hopkins in Oliver Stone’s movie.
