I think Ian Fleming was dead by the time OHMSS came around.

Maybe Im wrong, but I know he took his own life in the mid sixties, and I was thinking it was 64 or 65.

the Shadowriders portrayed 2 Texan Brothers right after the war between the states....one played by Sam Elliot (south) the other by Tom Selleck (north)

You might be right, it is a long time since i listened to the commentary, which is full thing i missed such as all the homages to Westerns, can you believe the cinema bigs cut 40 mins out and Bronson does not die...
It bombed at the box office but when Leone released it with the additional 40 mins it was a hit...

Am I wrong in thinking Clint would have made one bad-ass Felix?

And in the movie as well. A previous poster mistakenly affiliated him with SPECTRE.

Love it! Have it on Blu Ray. Henry Fonda as a bad guy was brilliant - those ice blue eyes - great casting. I did think Claudia Cardinale was a bit much - but my guess is that she was big box office draw - she is gorgeous!

We miss Sergio Leone :( What a great filmmaker! Love the epics.

Just watched 'How the West was won' in cinerama which translates pretty well if you have a big tv.

I don't know - I kind of like Jack Lord (despite the fact he apparently stole his mother's glasses).

He's go an interesting personal history as well.

With you on your picks! I always liked 'The man who shot Liberty Valance' off the top of my head. Wish they would make great films like those again. I don't know how westerns do at the box office though. Was kind of disappointed with the remake of 'Appaloosa' but I think I might not have liked the shmaltzy story line with the chick - I like the 'shoot em ups' much better.

I absolutely enjoyed (particularly the first few seasons) of HBOs "Deadwood".

Nice to know there are other western fans out there.

I was not overly impressed with the movie, do remember where Lee Marvin told Jean Seberg he admired her principles and she questioned if that was what he was admiring

I love westerns...especially good shoot em ups...

Duvall and Costner had a good on a few years back with Open Range...one of the best shootemup climaxes in years.

Tombstone had great action scenes...

and Unforgiven I call Cowboy-noir dark and evil. I loved it.

I like Deadwood, except that by the 3rd season it was played out....the first season was the best...I have all 3 seasons on DVD cause I don’t/won’t have HBO in my house.

I shoot Cowboy Action Shooting matches...we use real old west style guns and dress the part...shooting real bullets at steel targets....lots of fun.

I was living at Ft. Knox as an Army dependent when Goldfinger was filmed. Many of the extras (Army types) came from my dad’s unit on post. Pretty cool.

‘Once upon a time in the west’ is extremely complex. It's an American film but it has more in common with European art films than with American westerns. And it isn't dubbed.

Also, the idea of an essentially flatfooted director like Eastwood making the ‘best Western ever made’ is pretty audacious. You think he surpassed people like John Ford, Howard Hawks and Anthony Mann?

Good, Bad, Ugly was great, but “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” is my favorite.””

I am with you Bro.

If you are a Christian and want to see a different sort of futuristic movie, See “the Book of Eli.” First movie I have seen in more than a year, but absolutely outstanding.

Just went to netflix and put How the west was one on my list...
Regarding Henry Fonda when he turned up on the first day on set ,he had a big beard to make him look mean and ugly,Sergio told him to go shave it,i want you handsome looking, it will make you more scary...
Claudia was big in Europe at the time...
