OK here are the scenarios for reasons why Evan Bayh is retiring:
1. getting out to save the ego bruise of losing in November.
2. Cashing in as the next head of PHarma or some other lobby group.
3. The wife finally got tired of his philandering and she’s leaving him.
4. He’s gearing up to run in 2012 against Obama from the right.
5. Sort of like #3 but with a dead girl.
6. He’s been bought off and in exchange for being a lap dog for the next 8 months

you left out “cashing in while still a Senator as opposed to being an defeated has been”......either to run for president or get big bucks.

I am loving the bye bye bayh threads.....apparently he has withdrawn too close to the filing deadline for another dem to step up? how can that be? he screwed them royally if true.
Yes filing deadline to get on the primary ballot in Indiana is tomorrow. (In Ohio it is Thursday) The party can pick a nominee in caucus in the event that there is no one selected by primary.
so the successor will be the party pick? makes sense. still, it WILL tick off a lot of their own party for it to be a pick like that.
