The Germans were true advocates of quality and workmanship. The Russians had the sense to know that stuff used in war would not last that long anyway, so a lot of tolerance was allowed in weapons construction. The German equipment was built tight. In fact, during the Russian winter Nazi equipment got even tighter. Tight enough to malfunction..

Exactly. My Mausers shoot well but are touchy.
I can swap bolts and other parts on the Mosins all day.
