Somehow I picked up this beauty. I had Avast and old Norton which I need to remove.
I am now trying to remove it with Avast on a reboot scan. I tried to download Malware Bytes on this machine but this awful virus sucks up everything on the machine. Avast is at 10%. I am not sure it will get it.
I like to do a lot of scans, I always update and I do only, deep, full scans.
I do several scans a day, I use avast antivirus, malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Windows defender, glaryutilities, spywareblaster,IOBits Security 360, Eset online antivirus scanner, and Bitdefender online antivirus scanner and I use them all on the highest rating, it is just a habit I got into doing since I leave the computer on all day, I also have windows update on automatic.
Occasionally I will try adaware and spybot again to see if anything is new.
When I get a discarded computer I put it through all those paces to clean it up and always works, although to get started i have sometimes had to use the USB trick.
Sadly, they’re mostly given slaps on the wrist... and the bastards are pretty smug about writing them. I knew a guy in college who giggled proudly about writing them, and merely said that “it’s like the old west.” If you aren’t going to ensure your own safety, it’s not his fault if you lose your stuff. I almost slapped him right then and there.
I’m not sure it’s a good idea to remove HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “”. It will probably contain some legit entries. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “” also might contain legit entries.
Do a Google search for "Norton Removal Tool" to get rid of Norton (if you can't remove it from your Control Panel Add Remove Software.

I attended a meeting today and there was a big muckity muck from Trend Micro. He said there are 100,000 new malware signatures created every 1-2 days.
He also talked about the architecture of malware now being put out. How they are broken up into many pieces and the first downloader points to a second downloader. This allows them to update their malware without reinfecting the PCs.
Hackers are also moving to virtual machines where they can move their servers at will and be virtually untraceable.
Well, i can only thank God that in 10 years of intensive Internet work (w/95-Vista), as part of a Christian work, i only found one virus, besides the few mild spyware type cookies and such whose ads seem to be thwarted by the MVPS hosts file (very rare to get a popup). No Norton type bloatware either. But i do try to keep an eye on things. Win Patrol is a help.
Have used plenty of freeware (like Firefox and OpenOffice) also, thank God for it also.
What should be standard on any OS is CPU usage as part of the clock (TClockEX shows seconds and ram) without having to run TaskManager, as well as an easy to access specific report on net traffic, what’s going out and in. But MS does not even thing seeing file extensions should be default.

You are right i would think. But the double quotes “” seem to indicate that they left something out, rather than delete the whole key. I should have looked at it closer before posting it.
BTW, a neat piece of freeware for registry surfing is Registry Jumper. You can paste a string in and go to by just hitting jump!
Tried system restore but it wouldn't allow it, didn't think to run in the safe mode.
Had the free version of Malware Bytes which doesn't run 24/7, you have to do manual scans so that's how I missed it.
It completely shut down my antivirus, Safe and Secure, which is from my ISP.
Malware Bytes removed it. Nasty piece of work. I'd like to meet the author on a dark and rainy night in an alley somewheres.
If this is a variant of the "Internet Security" virus, it won't LET you run task manager. God, that was a beast to get off my daughter's machine. I had to finally flatline it and re-install windows.
