TORONTO - There are still no leads in the case of an eastern Ontario scientist who disappeared without a trace last month, leaving his colleagues mystified. Canada-trained Pakistani nuclear scientists defecting

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/827642/posts

At least five of nine Pakistani nuclear scientists who have secretly left their country to seek more money and better working conditions were trained in Canada, The Asian Pacific Post has learned.

Another top scientist, Dr. A.Q. Khan, the man who made Pakistans nuclear bomb and who has been linked to assisting Iran, Iraq and North Korea weapons programs, was also hosted by the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd, (AECL).

The defections of the scientists and Dr Khans alleged links to the so-called Axis of Evil is adding to fears of the world community about the safety of Pakistans nuclear weapons falling into wrong hands. It also adds to the growing controversy surrounding Canadas involvement in Pakistans nuclear program, which many say ultimately helped North Korea develop nuclear weapons.

Pakistan is believed to have transferred nuclear technology to North Korea in return for North Korean missiles. The details about these defections were revealed in a memo.......

China's nuke know-how made in Canada

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1397905/posts

The western world is only now waking to the nightmarish specter of China providing nuclear technology know-how to Pakistan and North Korea.

China's nuke know-how can be stamped: "Made in Canada".

CANDU manufacturer, the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (AECL), is among other things, the Mother of all Proliferators. Reid Morden, former president and CEO of AECL, could star in his own made-for-television spy novel. Morden's credentials in the spy industry come from Canada's main intelligence agency, CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service, an agency Morden headed up.

"On October 13, 1995 the second phase of a Canadian deal with China was signed in Ottawa during the controversial....

Although most of the comments to the Fox News article are not serious, there are several posters who firmly believe that Lachlan Cranswick defected, and one poster advises that all tapes of all foreign embassies should be examined carefully to see which country he defected to.

Finally, finally there is an article from the Australian MSM - note how it, too, says nothing whatsoever about LC's background.

Maybe within a day or two some of his old classmates will participate in the discussion about this article at the website.

Original article is from The Age.AU - which cannot be posted to FR.

Over at WS, they mentioned that David Cranswick is a relative of Lachlan's and that's why there is a link to the artist's website from Lachlan's website; do you happen to know how they are related?

For instance, are they cousins? A nephew?? You do know that the "D" in Lachlan M.D. Cranswick stands for 'David' --- as in Lachlan Michael David Cranswick.

....By 3 p.m. it was time for a talk on "Art and Alchemy" by Mr. David Cranswick, who is a traditional painter with a doctorate from the Prince of Wales Institute in London. The word alchemy comes from the Arabic word al-kimiya or al-khimiya, meaning cast together, or pour together, or weld, or alloy, and so on. The main element from this talk was the organization of colors with the help of the seven visible planets: That is, Mars, for example, carries colors from ochre to brown and Venus carries colors such as blue and green. Could that be where John Gray got his inspiration from when he argued that "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus"?

What is the derivation of the word alchemy ?
There are three main ideas about the origin of the word alchemy. Firstly, from ancient Egyptian transmitted through Arabic ‘al-khem’, from the Egyptian hieroglyphics

Km.t which form the native name of Egypt, ‘Chem’, meaning ‘black earth’. Thus one derivation of the word alchemy is the ‘Egyptian art’, or the ‘art of the black earth’.
The second derivation is from the Greek word ‘chemeia’, found in the writings of Diocletian, the art of making metal ingots.
The third derivation is from the Greek word ‘chumeia’, the art of extracting juices or infusions from plants, and thus herbal medicines and tinctures. From ‘chumos’ meaning juice.

You have to remain a little sceptical of muslim claims, islam maintains that muslim arabs founded TALLAHASSEE because the word has ALLAH in it.

Nuclear scientist disappears in Canada
Monday, March 1, 2010
By Anthony Stewart

http://m.abc.net.au/browse?page=11144&articleid=2833095&cat=Justin&title=Nuclear_scientist_disappears_in_Canada

.....His brother, Rupert Cranswick travelled to Deep River to try and find out what happened to his brother. He says the disappearance remains a mystery and police say it appears as though he just vanished.

"The house was open, the door was open, the lights were on and everything was there as if had just left. His phone, wallet and keys were there. Nothing was missing," he said.

"It just seems like he went out for a brief instance and then didn't return home, and that, to me, is bizarre. It's just not like my little brother. He lived for his work and he loved living in Deep River. He wouldn't have an enemy."

I have no idea if the Mariam Abedi in the article is the same person or has any relation whatsoever to Dr. Mariam Cranswick, a GP who is married to Noel Edward Cranswick who is a pediatritian.

Surely there must be some type of Australian medical "Who's Who" resource to find out more, like where they went to med school??
