Sears says it will begin selling Samsung 3-D HDTVs next month, which will make it one of the first retailers to sell the new 3-D sets.
Sears says two Samsung sets will begin shipping next month: a 46-inch, 3-D LED HDTV priced at $2,599 and a 55-inch LED HDTV priced at $3,299. They will be available at Sears stores in March.
"The anticipation for the 3-D experience at home has been mounting, and we're giving our shoppers a competitive edge by being one of the first retailers to offer these products," stated Karen Austin, president, Home Electronics, Sears Holdings.
Sears says the "the secret" to Samsung's 3-D technology is that viewing the TV with the glasses creates a slightly different image for each eye, resulting in a unique 3-D viewing experience.
Consumers can pre-order the sets now at Sears.com.
However, while the 3-D sets will be available next month, there apparently won't be any content available to watch on them. DIRECTV is not expected to launch three 3-D channels until June and 3-D Blu-ray players will likely not be ready until later in the spring.

I watched a 3D movie on my HD TV. I had to wear special glasses to see it in 3D. Now a new TV comes out (costing 10 X what I paid) that allows us to see 3D - if we’re wearing special glasses.
Yes, this 3D fad is just a SCAM by the electronics industry to get all of the “suckers” to throw away all of the perfectly fine, BRAND NEW, 1080P, 1.3a HDMI high-def equipment they just got through spending millions upon millions upon MILLIONS of dollars on. In their eyes they think consumers are nothing but walking dollar signs. These fools need to wake up to the reality that their is a world wide recession bordering on a depression going on and consumers are not going to fall for their bait and switch scam any more. They just got through establishing the 1080p/1.3a HDMI high-def standard and now they want to throw it all away and have us buy new 3D 1.4 HDMI crap that is just in it’s embryonic state (the industry hasn’t even worked oput all of the bugs/problems with 1.3a HDMI and now they want to move on from there!) so in another 2 - 3 years they can effectivly say: “You know all of that 3D equipment you bought? It isn’t any good any longer because we have come up with a ‘new and improved’ way do do 3D,,, it is 1.5 HDMI and you need different glasses to enjoy the 3D schlock we want to feed you!”

People that I have talked to who have seen the demonstrations at trade shows say that watching a basketball game on one of these is like being on the court with the players. This is a technology that will prove to be exciting for live events as well as movies.
I predict that this will be well adopted by the geek crowd.
I didn’t fall for the “BRAND NEW, 1080P, 1.3a HDMI high-def equipment “. But NOW is the time to upgrade from my 13” B&W tv when the real latest upgrade is available.
they did not address the obvious question - what does the picture look like when NOT wearing the 3D glasses. we know what happens in the theatre when you take the glasses off.
1) You have to wear special glasses to watch it... which glasses? No standard, many people have problems using them... head aches, nausea, etc. People will never buy into the 3D fad for home theater in any great numbers until it can be viewed WITHOUT glasses.
2) You are talking about a 3D demo using a highly controlled A/V path, reality is quite different. Cable, Dish etc is doing a lousy job of just providing 2D "high-def" signals: compressed signal, 720p content, piggy backed signal because they only have so much band width, etc... all resulting in a mediocre "high-def" picture = macro blocking, fuzzy smeared picture, lack of clarity etc. Need proof? Just look at the recent NFL playoffs... shoddy 2D high def at best.
3) The masses around the world just got through upgrading their entire A/V systems and the economy is now in the toilet. The overwhelming majority of people have just gotten through upgrading their entire HT system to upgrade to the 1080p 1.3a HDMI standard. They have spent millions if not billions of dollars doing so. The equipment is excellent; it works perfectly fine and is nearly, if not brand new. They are not going to throw all of that new equipment away just so they can spend thousands upon thousands of dollars that they do not have chasing a never ending, never settled HD format so that they can put on 3 D glasses and watch one or two poor quality 3D programs because there is a world-wide recession going on and everyone is hurting financially. People need bread and milk more than they need 3D. Sure there are a few people out there who are not affected by the economy. Yes they have money to burn on chasing the elusive 3D rabbit, but they represent a very small portion of the public at large. While they are not affected by the economy, everyone else is and they are not going to throw away money that they do not have on a new fad 3D format that is barely in its embryonic state. Don’t believe me? Just ask your friends and neighbors this one question:
“Are you interested/in/willing to throw away/get rid of your new high-def A/V equipment in order to spend more money on new A/V equipment so that you can watch 3D programming using 3D glasses if it becomes available?”
You already know the answer... it looks like crap.
3D gets old after about 10 minutes and really doesn’t enhance viewing pleasure. The last two movies I’ve seen in 3D (A Christmas Carol and Avatar) were not that great in 3D. Its a novelty that has no staying power in this economy.

That is a valid question.
The LED's are simply the _backlighting_ system. They should be called "LED backlit" LCD's.
The REAL LED TV's (OLED's), have a picture and efficiency that are far superior to the current crop of "LED TV's". Super expensive too, but what are we gonna call them when they finally get to a decent price point, "Really Real LED TV's?"
Especially if it's Samsung Samsuck!
