Lingle’s office sends out a boilerplate letter noting that it would be illegal for an official to divulge the contents of a birth certificate and related records. It can safely be assumed that in order to verify that Obama was born there, Lingle would have to divulge the contents of his birth certificate. So, those who claim that she verified whether he was born there are in effect accusing her of breaking their laws.
