In cities around the country I see a reverse white flight where whites are moving back into the cities thereby displacing blacks to the suburbs.

Where?

Interestingly, in the L.A. area, some of the nicer areas (lawns, boulevards, cute houses, etc) are considered “black” areas. I can personally attest to the fact that whites are not welcomed and black realtors keep it that way by being discourteous to whites inquiring about renatls, or stopping in for open houses. Blacks are the most racist folks around and they’re going to have to “work at” trying to be open to whites.

Sounds vaguely familiar, doesn’t it...?

I think it may have something to do with the white folk having to pay all the taxes and the black folk getting all the services!

Democracy doesn’t work when the people can vote to tax (steal form) a minority.

We have something in common. I was drafted in the Army on the day of the Newark, NJ riots of 1967. I did basic at Fort Dix and then served in Germany.

I was an 11-year-old kid living in Kearny, NJ, just across the Passiac River in July of ‘67. I remember it well.

July 12,1967 was the day. I was sworn into the Army in Newark that day. We took a bus from Newark to Fort Dix and we traveled along a guarded route until we got on the Turnpike.

Scary times, weren’t they? And in over 40 years the city of Newark has never recovered.

Riots occurred in cities from coast to coast during the 60's.
So much changed in America since then.
Positive changes were preventing discrimination in the work place and in public accommodations.
Negative changes, as it turned out were, generational welfare and political correctness.

Follow the time-line orinoco. 1965 Johnson annouces ‘’The War on Poverty’’ 1966, Watts, 1967, Newark, 1968 Birmingham. Liberal success.

Precisely the point. It wasn’t a matter of race, he just didn’t want a nice house surrounded by run down shacks, be it white, black, yellow, brown, little green men from Mars.

“A trailer park near your home is a price killer”

Indeed, which is why many places ban their existence altogether or zone them rather severely. As the man said, it’s just practical economics.

It’s not even that. It’s that people don’t want to live near people who are violent, ignorant, irresponsible, and unashamedly racist. They never mentioned crime rates in that article. I wonder why.

No, it’s not economic, it’s crime driven. If you’re not out-of-control and violent, no white person would mind living around you.

Maybe that’s like the czar abolishing serfdom, and shortly getting overthrown and murdered in a horrendous bloody revolution. Don’t empower the people who want to conquer and kill you.

My grandparents lived in Pennsauken. When I was young, the address was Merchantville. Even then, Merchantville was considered a better address. As far as I can remember, the area was never good, but it got a whole lot worse when they started the redevelopment of Camden. All those people who lived in those dreadful tenements had to go somewhere.

The one claim to fame was the fact that the first baby boomer was born to a family right across the street from my grandparent’s home. It was funny, the day that she turned sixty, all the newspaper’s ran her high school graduation picture on the front page and I turned to my husband and said, look at this, doesn’t she look like someone you could have known. He said no, then I read the name and where she lived, and said, oh my gosh, no wonder she looked familiar, I did know her.

Keeping out poor people is why many zoning laws exist that mandate lot size, set backs, housing density, families per unit, etc.

It keeps the cost of building and owning a house high enough that I won't be able to live in those neighborhoods (despite being neither out of control or violent) and that's the whole purpose.

It's why most places have ordinances against parking old cars in the front yard on blocks or letting the grass get too long and other standards of minimum maintenance.

It is economic first and foremost.

You might find it interesting, but Waters’s district is now either plurality or majority Hispanic. When she goes (either voluntarily or via primary defeat), you will see howls from the Black community at the loss of the most historic Black seat in CA (which has been Black-held since its creation in 1962). Hispanics came close to winning the adjacent 37th in the 2007 special as well.

LOL! I told him to just tell them to turn it down. He gave me this look of “ya, right”.

There's been an influx of Latinos into my neighborhood and I have the same problem. Every now and then some naive person, who must have grown up in Mayberry, will tell me, "Well, just knock on their door and ask them to turn it down!" My reaction is the same. "Yeah, right."

I can’t discount what you say totally, but I repeat that the main objection is the crime and violence, followed closely by trashy living - dilapidated houses, cars in front yard, salsa deep into the night. Beyond that it’s the kids bringing gang culture into the schools.

White folks just don’t live like that when they aren’t forced to multiculturate.
