MOSCOW (Reuters) – President Dmitry Medvedev ordered Russian Olympic officials to quit or be fired on Monday and demanded drastic changes to training procedures after a poor showing at the Winter Games dented national pride.

Once mighty Russia limped in 11th in the medals table with just three golds, its worst ever tally. The result was especially embarrassing because Russia is due to host the next Winter Olympics in 2014 at the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

"Those responsible should take the brave decision and sign a letter (of resignation)," Medvedev said in televised comments. "If they can't we will help them."

Did anybody notice during the Sochi promo at the end of the olympics program last night, the computer generated man and woman holding up a crossed hammer and sickle? I was pretty amazed.

And I am sure that liberals all across America stood with their hands over their hearts while the Soviet, I mean Russian, anthem was played.

Since they’re hosting next time, maybe they can make vodka drinking a mandatory requirement in each competition.

No wonder coaches are leaving Russia en masse. I wonder what the penalty will be if medal output doesn’t increase in 2014??

You'd better believe they should resign...if they don't want to find their food or drink laced with Polonium. You don't mess with Vlad the Irradiator Putin and his midget sidekick.

In the old days, the “officials” would all tragically die of a “brain hemorrhage”.

Strictly speaking from a musical standpoint, it's a gorgeous piece of music.

Brave decision to resign? How about resign or be murdered. Isn’t that how they do it in Russia?

Drug testing has killed the “Soviet secrets” to success at the Olympics.

I think siberia is still part of Russia and it still is very cold there in spite of global warming.

It seems as if more and more Russian athletes are RINOs (Russian In Name Only). Most of the good ones train in the US of A.

I kind of wondered about this during the Olympics. A ton of athletes train in the US. Who is paying for it? Where are the coaches in their countries? Interesting thought.

So is "The East Is Red". However, the political murder of 100 million people is a high price to pay for a couple of spiffy songs.

I guess they don’t have the capability to stay ahead of the testing, which they would have had in the old days.

What's your point? Can you not appreciate something just for what it is?
