COLUMBIA, Ky. (Associated Press) -- A Kentucky sheriff says a claustrophobic deputy has lost his job after accidentally locking himself in a jail cell and trying to shoot his way out of it.
Adair County Sheriff Ralph Curry tells WKYT-TV that no one was hurt when Charles Wright fired his weapon.

I think I must be a latent claustrophobiac. The prospect of being locked in a little room it’s impossible to get out of scares me more then the prospect of sharing a cell with big bubba.

how does one lock himself in a jail cell ???
most need a key to lock them in the first place, and if its an 'auto lock' type mechanism, where were the cameras and duty officers that hafta man the controls ???
sounds fishy to me, and tonight is my volunteer night at the county jail...

most need a key to lock them in the first place, and if its an 'auto lock' type mechanism, where were the cameras and duty officers that hafta man the controls ???In either case, mechanical or electric lock, maybe it was either hazing or he was being a dick and the other guys locked him in there to teach him a lesson.

As a former Kentuckian, all I can say is that for a sheriff’s deputy in Kentucky, this isn’t all that surprising.
