Sometimes loyalty trumps ideology.

When should principles trump loyalty?

During the 1950s, Ronald Reagan made his living as the host of some TV show about the west, a show called "Death Valley Days". He also worked for GE, travelling around giving political speeches as a spokesperson for GE. The President of GE took him under his wing to teach him about economics, foreign affairs and government. He learned and developed as a political thinker and as a conservative. He eventually synthesized what he learned into the beliefs that he carried with him the rest of his life. He was able to articulate them brilliantly, and he never wavered from them. They were his foundation.

By 1964, when he gave a speech at the Republican convention, he was fully formed, but not yet a politician. Soon after, he became a politician, winning the California governorship in 1966. He stayed in that position until 1974. He didn't do TV anymore but did a radio spot, and stayed in the public eye. He continued to read and grow, but the 1950s were his formative years.

It did not matter to the ability of RR to be a national figure that he had been doing TV in the recent past, just that he had obtained a vision of the America that could be, and that he articulated his vision so well that people agreed with him, going against the perceived wisdom of the day.

Sarah Palin has not gone through the same process as RR to get a strong foundation as a conservative, but perhaps it is because she did not have to. Reagan's success in formulating a conservative philosophy of government and his two terms in office proving it worked, created a generation of people who now know how to run America. She was in college in the 80s and adopted Reagan's philosophy, instinctively and intellectually. She has articulated it her entire political career, and understands it very well. She communicates it very well, better than anyone on the national scene right now with the lone exception of Rush Limbaugh. The things that Reagan had, which she does not yet possess, is a strong background in the minutia of world affairs. She is currently working to acquire that, from my observation. She is working to be ready to add knowledge of detailed information to her qualifications, to supplement an already fully formed political foundation.

I care not a whit if she does TV or radio or films on projects that she finds interesting while she is in pre-2012 mode. It makes her more interesting, and if is not political, it makes her even more normal.

The American people will love her, once she gets in a position where she can define herself away from the media and entertainment filter through which she is currently viewed.

“Not quite. The main consensus was it was indeed a couple of idiots that took a wrong turn at Albuquerque in a stolen car. A few folks were withholding judgment till more facts came out or pointed out that nobody is that much of an idiot to try and escape in a stolen car by driving onto a military installation unless they are carrying out a terrorist attack.”

I don’t follow your post. Do you honestly believe they stole a car in ABQ and drove 480 miles to carry out a terrorist attack? They were basically illiterate hispanics, the had NO weapons that would be classified as typical OR atypical terrorist weapons; AND they had no explosives.

This occurred at about 11:00 PM. IOW it was dark. They were unfamiliar with the area, they were scared, basically illiterate (in English).

Add to that that area is rife with stolen cars (AZ is the stolen car leader in the US).

My conclusion... They were communist subversives posing as Hispanics who were convinced they could take over the US military with a ‘water pistol’. {Sarcasm off}

LOL! Well you're either really young or you're not US born. Query the term, Junior.

LOL. Just what ‘term’ should I query? Do you always talk in cryptic?

And, I am not sure where I was born. I was very young at the time.

But I make the observation that I know several people who used to like Sarah but have now abandoned her because: A) She supported McCain

I know people who never liked her and use "she supported McCain" as a reason why they don't like her.

I just realizedd that my sisters grandaughter and her hubby are stationed at Luke. Here is an email exchange from today. Doesn’t really settle the issue but she does agree that FOX loves drama to give Shep a reason to be on air. It is my ‘gut feel’ that not more info has come out there in Phoenix since the media there is scared to death of the hispanic retaliation. I understand the Mayor is for open borders as is the newspaper.

And you still haven’t told me what the reference to ABQ is.

The mail exchange follows——

What was the disposition of the goofball that crashed the gate at Luke? I never heard who, what or why. Help. I have a bunch of people telling me it was a terrorist attack.

Her response—

They haven’t released much information stating whether or not it was a “terrorist attack” BUT they did say that the men were headed toward the flight line. I’m not sure if they have released the ethnicity of the men or not, but the cops here seam to easily jump to conclusions. Of course, they do need to take the proper precautions and I’m glad that they were doing their jobs, but I think they could’ve maybe resorted to something a little less morbid...maybe, shooting out their tires...or something along those lines. I know Fox news was talking about it saying Luke AFB was “under attack” because I had several friends calling me from Nebraska asking what the hell was going on....well, truth be told, Fox blew it out of proportion just a tad....it was just 2 guys in the middle of the night being stupid....I don’t think it was a master planned terrorist anything, otherwise I think Eric would’ve been a little bit more informed, especially because he was working OUT on the flight line when the men were headed his way....sooo he’s not worried, so neither am I. :) Hope that helps!

‘Kinda, maybe, sorta like those “my way or the highway” types who object when Sarah Palin goes on Leno and does a TV documentary, right? ‘

Did she do a documentary on Leno? {8-,

Or when Bill went on Letterman and blew his sax.
