Minors are not allowed to own handguns in California.

Yes, 12-18 year olds can hunt(with rifles and shotguns)under adult supervision and they can fire handguns on the range under adult supervision but they can't own handguns until they are 21.

The sad fact is when I was a boy we could own, carry and hunt with out adults around and we frequently did. No one I know of shot any thing or anyone. One of my aquaintences, however, blew his big toe off after he reached adult hood. He was hunting quail and failed to engage the safety on his 12 gauge pump and caught the trigger on a bush. Stupid move but he was a grown man at the time.
