We did some public records searches (thanks to the help of Gawker's John Cook) and found Sikes and his wife Patty found themselves, like many in the California real estate business, on the bursting side of the real estate bubble last year. The two declared bankruptcy in June of 2008 and have a combined liability of over $700,000 dollars in debt.

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Conspiracy; Outdoors
KEYWORDS: recalls; tortlaw; toyota

Mr. Sikes also has not shied away from cameras appearing on CNN and numerous other television programs. In each, he's stated numerous times he's not going to sue and isn't looking for any financial remuneration from Toyota other than a new vehicle.

At a guess I’d say “yes.” Too many of these “accidents” popping up AFTER Toyota says there was a problem. I find that to be suspect. Not only of this incident either.

According to a report on FNC this evening, we had another one of these “runaway” events today. I think it was a lot safer on our roads BEFORE the gubmint made a big deal out of this in their effort to sink Toyota for their union pals. Now we’ve got Toyotas running around at 100 mph all over the place.

I am afraid of catching something. I know enough to suspect he is going to jail.

This is potentially a gigantic story.

My brother has worked in the wholesale auto trade for the last 30 years, mainly buying and selling used Hondas and Toyotas. Neither he, nor anybody at the big auctions in Manheim and Fredericksburg, nor anybody at any of the D.C. area Toyota dealerships, nor anybody any of them have spoken with have ever seen or heard of an instance of this alleged problem. And now this.

Hondas and Toyotas are basically the best cars which have been sold in the world over the last 30 years. It is very normal to see Camrys and Corollas and Civics and Accords with 200,000 miles on them which are still as tight as drums. There is a very high likelihood that this entire thing which we've been hearing and reading about is pure BS.

The accident (accleration causing rear-end collision) that caused a fatality here was way before all this started to hit the news as with this guy. Husband killed and wife with life altering injuries.
