"Alice in Wonderland" tops worldwide box office

* "Green Zone" opens to weak $14.5 mln in North America

LOS ANGELES, March 14 (Reuters) - "Alice in Wonderland" raced to a $430 million haul at the worldwide box office on Sunday, while Matt Damon's new Iraq war conspiracy thriller "Green Zone" was one of the year's first big flops.

Director Tim Burton's 3D remake of "Alice" led the field for a second weekend after earning $138 million during the three days beginning on Friday, said distributor Walt Disney Co

Except that The Hurt Locker actually bucked the trend.

It was one of the rare contemporary war films where the good guys were courageous American soldiers and the bad guys were barbaric Muslim jihadis. There were no scenes of U.S. soldiers committing war crimes, rapes or torture thrown in or a bunch of political dialog equating Bush with Hitler. It was just a simple, action-packed, nail-biting film showing America's best doing brave work while the Muslims were booby-trapping children.

It's a shame it flopped at the box office. We could use more Hurt Lockers.

Yeah, but you what what the dirty little secret is? Lefties really don’t go to movies as a rule. They just don’t. The reason being simply that Lefties are cheap. They wouldn’t waste the money. Hollywood doesn’t get this. This and the fact that the great majority of Americans ARE NOT anti-military and anti-US. and they(we) won’t waste the money or time either.

I whole heartedly agree with your assessment of “The Hurt Locker”. I watched it 2 months ago on Blu-Ray. I enjoyed it as there wasn’t much politics involved. Just good old fashioned intense entertainment. I liked it even more after what Katheryn Bigelow said with respect to the troops (twice)after she accepted the oscar for best director then best picture. Barbra Streisand had a real sourpuss look on her face when Bigelow mentioned the troops.

With him and Brolin in it, guaranteed it will be nothing remotely worthy to the original.

Iraq war conspiracy thriller “Green Zone” was one of the year’s first big flops.

“Green Zone” is like charging a viewing fee to watch a typical MSNBC show of Keith Olbermann or Ed Schultz or Rachael Madcow.

Matt Damon made some unpopular comments a few months ago, didn’t he? Probably hurt his appeal at the box office. With the film’s liberal viewpoint also, no wonder it flopped.
