"Alice in Wonderland" tops worldwide box office

* "Green Zone" opens to weak $14.5 mln in North America

LOS ANGELES, March 14 (Reuters) - "Alice in Wonderland" raced to a $430 million haul at the worldwide box office on Sunday, while Matt Damon's new Iraq war conspiracy thriller "Green Zone" was one of the year's first big flops.

Director Tim Burton's 3D remake of "Alice" led the field for a second weekend after earning $138 million during the three days beginning on Friday, said distributor Walt Disney Co

"Green Zone" had a $100 million budget (plus whatever marketing and distribution costs it accrued), made only $14 million in its first weekend. It will probably make roughly double that in its international debut, so it's got some ground to make-up if it's not going to be a total loser for the studio, GE (NBCUniversal). Frankly, it couldn't happen to a better company.

Most Americans are not going to pay to see something in the theater they can see free on the news. Also, we get enough anti American tripe on tv without having to go pay $20 for a pair of tickets to watch it again.

Good riddance.

IMHO, only a total idiot would actually pay to watch anti-American propaganda.

With the way Hollywood works, Matt Damon will appear in the sequel called “Bush's Fault”.

Instead of Green Zone, they should have done a remake of Soylent Green. Either that or Logan’s Run.

Everything is a remake these days, so it would be competitive.

And prepared us for the coming passage (unwritten, no votes needed) of the National TAXING for HEALTH CARE bill.

“Rocco noted “Green Zone” did better than most other entries in the Iraq war genre, including Oscar best picture winner “The Hurt Locker,” which has earned about $16 million since June.”

Only in Hollywood can they think that they sucked a little less.

0bama, Attorney General “Al Qaeda 7” Holden, ex-Green Czar Van Jones, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah “God Damn America” Wright, Louis Farrakhan, the Daily Koskids, Moveon.org crazies, etc, say “Hello”. To those vermin, “ Green Zone” represents what America is really like.

I was going to see thje Green Zone until I heard it has an anti-American message. I hear that crap all the time. I don’t go to the movies to hear it again.

"Only in Hollywood can they think that they sucked a little less."

Simple accounting seems to be out of the grasp of Hollywood-types as well. I read during Oscar week that the Hurt Locker had a production budget of $15 million, whereas "The Green Zone"'s production budget was over $100 million.

That's like one homeless guy telling another that he at least has a card box to sleep on in the freezing night. What matters here is that the movie may never recover it's costs, and they could end up taking a big loss on this vile piece of anti-American propaganda.

Did I read that Damon is to be cast in a remake of True Grit? In what role I wonder? Mattie maybe?....Nah - Matie was much tougher than Matt Damon.

So the left continues to pump out those anti-American, anti-war pieces of PC tripe and it’s costing our Marxist friends a TON!!!! The BEST PICTURE of 2009 was a disaster at the box??!! Those stupid, ignorant Americans...they just don’t know what’s GOOD!!!

"The BEST PICTURE of 2009 was a disaster at the box??!! Those stupid, ignorant Americans...they just don’t know what’s GOOD!!!"

In the interest of accuracy, I would point out that "The Hurt Locker" was more even handed than was Avatar, which will become one of the highest-grossing films of all time. I broke down and saw Hurt Locker this week. It wasn't bad, and the political undertones - to the extent that there were any - were very muted. Avatar, OTOH, is nothing but a leftist, anti-American, anti-Free Market, anti-Marine Corps love fest.

I'm afraid that they'll only lesson Hollywood will learn from these box-office debacles is that they must better disguise their movie's anti-American slant - or at least make the anti-American protagonist either a 10-foot tall aborigine, a vampire or a pirate as those are the only kinds of movies that seem to sell today.
