I’ve managed to get out to my land twice this week (thanks Mom!!!) Compared to about 4 times in the last year. I’ve decided to stick with seeds this year whenever possible, even with plants that are not normally grown from seed.
This week, I’ve planted pawpaw seeds, rhubarb seeds, marshmallow seeds, and one tomato. I know its way too early for tomatoes and it’ll probably freeze, but I planted it anyway. With a generous amount of weedblock and colored garden stakes, hopefully I’ll still be able to find what I planted!
On that note, the first month I owned this land I planted about 20 trees, most of which vanished in the surrounding weeds. I’ve been gradually finding the taller ones again, but kind of gave up on the littler ones, I figured they’d been smothered to death by the weeds (which get to be taller than I am). Last spring I was sitting in the grass and realized that the grass under one hand felt weird, so I pulled it back a little to see what was under it, and lo’ and behold, there was one of my stone pine trees! It was somewhat stunted, but still fighting. I trimmed the weeds around it and laid down some mulch, and when I checked it yesterday it had tripled in size! Its still only a foot tall, but I’ll take my victories where I can find them.
And another surprise, the guy whose house is next door to my land, a man known by the charitable nickname of “Mr. Grumpy”, is selling his house! If anyone wants details I can post them.
sure...
Great news! So-long, Mr. Grumpy!
