Our local feed store has been selling 1000 baby chicks a week since mid February, and will keep selling that many or more through May. That is one hell of a lot of chicken meat and hen fruit out in the local populace, and that is from only one source. Consider that another excellent indicator of an emerging underground economy, barter economy or Galt economy; whatever you want to call it....

What area of Vancouver? I'm in SW Portland and can do very little, besides storing up on food, ammo etc. Might try a few hens this year, but really want to get a couple of acres. Even if I get the hens, I'll still be bucking City Hall by getting many more than the 'annointed ones' allow.
