A wise person will have plenty of pre 65 junk silver and pre 82 copper pennies. Gold will be hard to barter with in this society if we had a complete economic break down. i wouldn’t take out more that a silver quarter without having someone backing me with a 12 ga pump.
If you bought gold when it was $300/ounce and a whole bunch of it, yes it makes good sense to hold on to it. But all these carnival hawkers out there trying to sell gold at $1,115/oz. Sorry not buying. Makes no sense unless a person has a strong desire to own gold. Given what’s coming, it makes much better sense to pay down debts, stockpile cash and other survival items (lead). If gold ever gets back down around 2 or 3 hundred/oz, I will be buying it in large quantities. As for now, hell no.
If you don't see the financial and societal collapse that is coming you aren't paying attention. I don't even see how it's avoidable at this point. Unless massive cuts are made in gubmint spending (and that is not going to happen until it's too late) our debt is going to be 90% of GDP by 2020. This is going to get very ugly when 50% of the population no longer receives their Obama money. These welfare brood mares have been taught to riot when they don't get their way. I wouldn't be living in a city in about 8 years from now. People can either prepare or suffer the consequences....
And bricks of primers.
If you fail to plan then plan to fail. Really, get down to the basics first. See some of the survival sites. Start with a moderate store of food, water and necessities before you start with Gold. Poor man starts with silver, work your way up to Gold. Buy some books, Bible first, as knowledge is more valuable then Gold. Am I right people?
