Daughter turns mom in for Ponzi scheme

Would you have the courage to turn your own mother in to authorities in order to stop a Ponzi scheme?

That wasn’t a rhetorical question for Kim Flanigan, who faced just such a dilemma when it became apparent that her widowed mother was involved as both a participant and a recruiter for a classic get-rich-quick scheme that had already ensnared 100 or more people.

When Flanigan heard her mother trying to convince a widow with nine children to invest her life savings in the scheme, she knew she had no choice.

The hardest thing for any child to do is turn in their parents for committing a crime. I really feel for this kid.

It’s not a Ponzi Scheme. It’s a network marketing investment practice.

Her Mom work for the SSA ?

No, Kongress. She was explaining the joys of ZeroCare to the widow.

SSSSSSHUSH! I’m trying to convince my daughter that Social Security is a sound investment for her generation. As it was for mine, born 1950.

Good for her. If we all had this kind of guts and honesty we wouldn’t have the kind of corruption and graft that allowed this POS we have in the WH to get elected.

One reason the scam worked so well is because it preyed on churchgoing people.

I have lost several friendships that I made at church because people wanted me to part of their "network marketing" program.

I will not leverage (bastardize?) my social network to make a few bucks, or allow someone else to make a few bucks. (OK, I have purchased some overpriced $10 goods because I knew somebody was very much down on their luck -- close to losing their home.)

Can I turn in my government for running their ponzi schemes? Social Security, for example? Fractional Reserves?

I’ve been badmouthing Social Security since around 1980, so I may not get much back, but at least I can tell all my liberal family and friends, “Toldja so!”.

Problem is, most liberals have saved squat for retirement, a lot of them more or less quit working around age 50 or so. So when Social Security is “means tested” and they wind up getting as much from SS as I get from pension plus savings (and I’ll get squat from SS), they’ll all be laughing at me and saying “Toldja so!” The grasshoppers are now in charge.
