I see Jardine has done the Himalayas. That is just the place I was thinking of using this.

It’s that or cook on donkey dung up there.

Very cool. I haven't followed him of late so that is news to me, but doesn't surprise.

It’s made by a Swedish Co., and is really a first generation backpacking self pressurizing stove. Runs on unleaded. Burns like a blow torch and sounds like a V-1 buzz bomb when it gets cranked up.

Youtube search Svea 123 and there are some vids of it and what it sounds like.

I’ve had mine for 35 years, never had one problem. I paid $20 bucks new, now they are like $90.

I really like the penny stove, but for sentimental reasons I’m keeping the Svea.

Its funny, I found out about this stove by doing a little research on a Swiss army stove, and I just thought it was so simple.

I had to build one! And there is great satisfaction in building things that work, so I just had to share LoL

I prefer my old Sears white gas camp stove but it wont fit in my backpack.

I was just gonna say... I bought one new for a dollar at a yard sale. No one was interested in it but I thought it was pure gold.

My Svea is at the other house but there was no “self-pressurizing” - you had to twist a knob and pump manually and then lock down the plunger ... still they’re great backpacking stoves ... Oops! I guess they are self-pressurizing if you include yourself ... ;-)

Firefox blocked your page.

Are you using the 2003 version of Firefox? I've upgraded since then.

That Kashmir area is pretty rough from what I've read...but I see that you've specified the India part, so I assume you've done much more detailed study on the region than I have. Have you read about steripens? They look pretty handy...small and can purify water in less than a min if I recall correctly.

I like your tuna can idea! I remember making fire starters with cardboard, string & wax with the GS back in the early 70s.
