My screen name, 5by5, harks back to the days of analog radio communication. It’s a subjective quality scale for signal strength and signal clarity from 1 to 5.

It basically means “loud and clear.”

My screen name, 5by5, harks back to the days of analog radio communication.

I remember those days when someone would call in for a radio check, tweak it a little and call in again. It got so that our reply was "2by2". They'd invariably come back and ask "2by2?"

My answer was:

2 Loud, and

2 Often
