You are ignorant. I cannot believe the animosity that people have for this breed. If you have ever spent the time to get to know a dog of this breed you would realize how gentle they actually are. Yes, they were originally bred to fight, but if you do a little homework you would realize that the reason they were bred to fight is because they would not turn on their handlers. They were bred specifically to have zero human aggression. When a dog of this breed exhibits human aggression it is because they have been severely abused or mishandled by incompetent owners. These dogs are quite possibly the most loyal breed in existence. Please do not help the media to perpetuate the stereotype and damn this breed. This being said, I am the owner of an American Staffordshire Terrier and a Pit Bull mix. I have a 12 year old daughter and another child on the way. These dogs would lay down their lives for my daughter, but I would NEVER leave them alone with the new baby. I have half a brain. These dogs acted on centuries of instinct that cannot be bred out of them. This is the same thing they would do to another dog in the wild to protect their bloodline. If anyone is at fault here it is the person that left the child unattended. But it is too early and too little information is available to make that judgement.

I've been training dogs for more than 40 years. I've been investigating and testifying in dog aggression court cases for more than a decade. I get to see all the really pretty pictures, up close and personal, that the doctors and the medical examiners take when pit bulls attack. I also get called when other dogs bite and it goes to court but guess what, even though pits make up a small part of the total pet dog population in this country they make up the majority of the dog attack and homicide cases.
These are the stats and they are clear and true. You are blind, ignorant, and not representing the horrors of this breed honestly. The numbers tell the truth, you do not!!! NO one ever hears a pit owner say "oh, I just knew he was going to kill a kid one of these days." What everyone hears, even under oath, is these ignorant people tell everyone that they just can't believe that their loveable little pet killed the kid. Well, tell that to the parents of the dead child!!! Don't tell me, I've heard it before. It was a crock then as it still is today.

I don't know how many times it needs to be pointed out, but again, the analogy you use is flawed for one very obvious reason: a gun does not attack without command of its owner. To put it more bluntly, my gun never took off down the street all by itself and mauled some kids face.
