Pit bulls attack 6-month-old boy

03:44 PM PDT on Wednesday, April 7, 2010

By SARAH BURGE

Police are investigating a dog attack Saturday at a Murrieta apartment in which a 6-month-old boy was bitten in the groin, authorities said.

Animal control officials said the child lost his testicles in the attack.

Sgt. Bob Landwehr said today that police were called to a report of a dog bite shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex at 26301 Arboretum Way. The mother and her friend had left the baby strapped into a portable carrier and unattended in a room with a pit bull and a pit bull mix, he said. It was not clear how long the baby had been left alone.

One or both of the dogs attacked the baby, tearing off his diaper and biting his scrotum, Landwehr said. The mother and friend came to the baby's rescue when they heard him scream.

Landwehr said the baby was taken to Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta and transferred to another hospital, but he did not have an update on the child's condition.

The dogs were seized by animal control, Landwehr said.

The owner of the dogs signed a release to allow them to be euthanized, said Willa Bagwell, director of Animal Friends of the Valleys, which provides animal control services for Murrieta.

Bagwell, who spoke with the mother, confirmed that the baby's testicles were bitten off in the attack.

Landwehr said no one has been arrested in connection with the incident, but the investigation is continuing.

The dogs removed the testicles from the wrong person.

The mother should NOT be allowed to breed again. And the father of this child, too.

Baby, dirty diaper, dogs. Obviously no one with a brain was anywhere nearby.

No one can justify this.
If pit bulls were not allowed to exist in this country this child would be unharmed. Period!!!!!!!
A pit bull did this exactly like many of us said it would happen. This will not be the last child maimed or killed by a pit bull. It happenes regularly and frequently.
How many children will be attacked before they finally outlaw these dangerous dogs? They will be eliminated here in our country just as they have been in the UK.
Allowing pit bulls around a small child is unbelievably stupid!!!!!

You won’t read this in a Hussein Asylum speech. The boy won’t be helped, pity.

Bingo!

And, this is being indulged at a time when the real menace (Hippo Attacks!) goes on unabated - as seen at the 1:30 mark in this horrific video, when the totally unprovoked Hippo goes after the "business end" of the unsuspecting water craft.

Some people get off on looking at bloody, gory car crashes or watching snuff films...he’s “into” pit bull/human mutilated people stories.

He spends all of his time _scouring_ the web for these stories, in desperate hope of finding new ones.

Just ponder the psychology behind *that* for a while and then ask yourself what’s *really* the most horrible, aberrant, repulsive thing about these threads.

Read his whole “thematic” posting history.

You think you’ve got nightmares *now*.........

The eulogy was, of course, given by another dwarf, named "Even."

Makes one wonder. Why the forensic analysis of the trampoline?

And will the Pippo be euthanized before it can kill again?

‘Why the forensic analysis of the trampoline?”

Potential highly “beneficial” litigation of the manufacturer, of course.

Obviously it was defective or it would not have willfully flung said dwarf into aforementioned Pippo’s maw like so much herring to a sea lion.

Crazy to think a breed of dog is to blame??? That is exactly what is to blame.
I've been training dogs forever. Bomb dogs, dope dogs, attack dogs and even service dogs. Now I work with stock dogs. Border collies and Belgian sheepdogs. We take the border collie pups out of the kennel at 8 weeks old and and put them on a flock of ducks to see if they will work. Most of them instantly start herding the ducks. It is called instinct. These pups have had very limited human contact. They work because they have been bred for the last 200 years to work. It is not nurture, it is nature.
Pitt bulls have been bred for the last 200 years to bite and fight. This too is a bred in instinct. It is there because it has been bred into them. It is nature, not nurture. The owners are usually ignorant of the dogs potential but it is the dogs that attack, maim, and sometimes kill. If pit bulls didn't exist in this country this child would be intact and unharmed. That is an unavoidable fact.

If pit bulls didn't exist

If alcohol didn't exist...

1.On average, someone is killed by a drunk driver every 40 minutes in US
2.Each day 36 people die and almost 700 more are injured in vehicle crashes that involve a drunk driver
3.The total cost of alcohol related crashes is roughly $51 billion
4.In 2006, out of 1,746 fatality that included children one out of six (291) was killed by an alcohol impaired driver
5.Half of all teenage fatalities is due to drunk driving
---------------------------
If firearms didn't exist...

Between 1999 and 2006...ages 1-16...4579 deaths by firearms

~654 children per year
-------------------------
If swimming pools didn't exist...

[it would] prevent the tragic drowning of 250 children under the age of 5 annually in swimming pools
----------------

If liberals didn't exist...

49,551,703 preborn were killed between 1973 and 2007
~1,457,403 per year.
----------------

If all the dogs on this list didn't exist...

then all those children would still be alive.

If you knew anything about these dogs
you'd know they were and are used for far more than fighting and biting.
They are a multi-functional dog.

You'd also know that they were specifically bred not to be human aggressive.

Stop your hand-wringing liberal nonsense,
get some actial experience with these dogs
and come back with some conservative solutions.

If Chet were doing us a real service he would be posting attacks by all dogs.

He would be offering analysis to the causes of all dog attacks.

He would be offering conservative solutions to lessening dog attacks.

What service does he providing beside titillating a morbid desire
of some to read threads of "horrible, aberrant, repulsive things"?
What have you learned that you couldn't have learned in just one thread by Chet?

I think it's an 'horrible, aberrant, repulsive thing'
that a fanatic like Chet will post a "pit bull attack" resulting in an injury like this...

but refuses to post a fatality caused by any other type of dog

“I’m sorry you have a problem with being warned. I think Chet99 is doing us a service.”

Right, just like the reporters that choose pit bull stories (some of which involve zero bites, zero scratches and still end up as news) over other breeds because of the amount of people who will read them.

One of the 19 people that died last year from non-pit bull-type dogs didn’t end up being published in the news. How is this a service to anyone but biased, ignorant, uneducated fools? As if people didn’t already know (or should know) that you don’t leave a baby alone with a dog? Because THAT is information that should be getting out to everyone. THAT should be common sense, and if it isn’t, it needs to be DRILLED into people’s heads!

You worry about banning a breed of dog which happens to be the most popular right now, while other breeds continue to maim and kill completely ignored. By the way, a few years ago, a jack russel terrier did something similar to a baby. He lost his penis in an attack because the parents could not be bothered to supervise their dog with a newborn.

“Pitt bulls have been bred for the last 200 years to bite and fight. This too is a bred in instinct. It is there because it has been bred into them. It is nature, not nurture.”

If you are willing to make claims about the nature of an animal, you have to be willing to accept EVERYTHING it was bred for. There is no denying that dog men bred pit bulls to be good at fighting dogs, and before that butchers bred them to be good at gripping bulls. It is also a FACT that is easily seen in any history of the breed that has been written that the dogs were also bred for the same amount of time to be extremely pliable to humans, to the extent that human-aggressive dogs were often culled to prevent such a trait from being passed to the next generation.

If you want to make an argument about one aspect of a dog’s inbred “instincts” and leave all the other stuff out, you are purposefully misrepresenting your facts, and will not be taken seriously by anyone here with any kind of common sense.

“You'd also know that they were specifically bred not to be human aggressive.”

Sorry one of those “multi” purposes of the breed is as a guard dog, i.e. “human aggressive”.

If you think Pits are somehow bred to not be human aggressive someone should REALLY go ‘back to the drawing board’ with the breed; because some backyard breeder somewhere along the way made them WAY WAY human aggressive.

Moreover, even if you assume that a firecracker and a stick of dynamite are equally likely to “go off”, a rational person must consider the disparate consequences of the two.

“Sorry one of those “multi” purposes of the breed is as a guard dog, i.e. “human aggressive”.”

Nope. They were never bred as a guardian. They were only ever bred to handle vermin and assist farmers, and later to fight dogs. People who claim these dogs were bred for that obviously haven’t read the history of the breed.

They make lousy guards, which is why they are one of the most commonly-stolen dogs. Most responsible pit bull owners will tell you their dogs would greet burglars with wagging tails. The dogs you see in these stories are owned by people who are irresponsible, which is why the experts NEVER claim it’s a breed issue. There is far too much evidence to the contrary for a professional to put emotion before reason.

And for the record, compared to their population, an infinitesimally small percentage of pit bulls end up on the news. Why on Earth would you want to judge an entire breed based on the actions of the smallest minority?

Originally the origin of the breed was not as a guard dog, but as a fighting dog. But one of the “multi” purposes the breed has been put to is as a guard dog.

It is, in fact, the favorite breed of dog for gangs to guard their crack houses and/or meth labs.

I have encountered far too many human aggressive Pit Bulls roaming around their owners country estates attacking any human being they see on the road to buy for a second this idiocy that they are not “human aggressive”.

And I would say that ripping the testicles off a 6 month old was an act of “human aggression”.

Hunting dogs gotta hunt.

Herding dogs gotta herd.

Fighting dogs gotta.... wag their tails and not ever bite anyone?

And it is not entirely the number of incidents or the likelihood, as opposed to a different breed. Even if you presuppose that a firecracker and a stick of dynamite is equally likely to explode, a reasonable person must note that the consequences of each are not equally as dangerous.
