Nude performers at NYC museum exhibition complain of being touched by patrons

NEW YORK - Some visitors to a new exhibit at New York City's Museum of Modern Art are being asked to leave because they are touching nude performers.

The performers featured in Marina Abramovic's new exhibition have complained of being pushed, prodded and poked by some patrons.

The museum acknowledges that it has had problems with some visitors touching the live art. It is declining to talk about specific cases, but says visitors caught doing it are escorted out.

The exhibition opened March 14 and presents a view of Abramovic's career over four decades.

It includes nude performers standing in a narrow doorway that visitors can pass through. Elsewhere, a naked woman reclines with a fake skeleton on top of her. Other live performers are clothed.

Yes, it seems the patrons are artists as well.

Why is their art being escorted outside the building? What happened to freedom of expression?

Is their touching judged less artistic than the paid performers’ exposures?

Is it only art if you get paid for it?

In which case, whither the whore?

Please tell me our tax dollars didn’t fund this thru NEA.

Well you already guessed the BAD news...
But the GOOD news is they really saved a lot on their wardrobe budget!

Again from the 4/15/2010 New York Times article on this exhibit:

“In addition to the gropers, there have been less extreme but still unnerving encounters. Mr. Rawls, for example, said that standing with his arms at his side he had felt more erections ‘across the back of my hand than I can count,’...”

Why hasn’t anyone asked for pictures yet?

Because groping their computer monitor isn't quite the same thing?

So-called “ART” is the biggest joke in modern times.

The fact that we pay millions in tax dollars to this BS is ridiculous.
Art is the excuse for millions of losers in this country to declare an “occupation” for themselves.
Pathetic

Agreed.

Do you know what the difference is between a pizza and an artist is?

The pizza can feed a family of four ...

Also from the realm of ridiculous "art" in New York City:

Empire State statue sparks 911 calls

NEW YORK- Police responding to a report of a jumper at New York's Empire State Building said they discovered the male figure standing on the ledge was a cast iron statue.

Investigators said the life-sized man statue that inspired Wednesday's 911 calls was part of the "Event Horizon" art installation, which features several of the realistic sculptures installed on various ledges around the Midtown area of the Manhattan borough, the New York Post reported Thursday.

"It's a pain in the ass," a city police officer said of the art project. "It's a waste of manpower. We're short cops to begin with and we don't have enough cops to waste answering calls of statues committing suicide."

The statue was installed on the ledge in late March as part of artist Antony Gormley's exhibit.

Officials said 34 people have jumped from the Empire State Building's observation deck since it opened in 1931, six of them during the past 10 years.
