If the 12th team was east of Ohio, I would expect the divisions to be:
East: Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St., Ohio St., Penn St., (new school)
West: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin.
If the 12th team was west of Ohio, I would expect the divisions to be:
East: Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St., Ohio St., Penn St., Purdue.
West: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Wisconsin, (new school).
The problem with the first scenario is that it splits up the Indiana-Purdue rivalry. The problem with both is that it lumps all the best football programs in the East (much like the Big XII South) so the conference championship game has less sizzle.
I don’t know how you’d do North-South. Maybe they could do like the ACC and draw up conferences that make no damn sense whatsoever.
