I use an Acer laptop here at school with XP . Every day before I go home I set the computer to stand-by so when I come in morning I don't have to wait for the computer to boot . Well , for the past two mornings , when I pushed the power button nothing happened . The power lights were on but the computer would not come on . Had to re-boot both times in order to get the computer on . Any idea of what the problem might be ? The computer " whizzes " here at my school in Japan haven't a clue ) . Any help appreciated !
Does the fan ever get loud? Does the laptop ever get burning hot while running?
its safer to shut it down than to use standby.
Is there a power saver setting that shuts off a monitor or docking station separately? So instead of just clicking a button to wake it up, you have to do something like ctl+alt+del to kick on the whole system? (that’s how my work computer is)..
When you recharge you’re computer, make sure the battery is actually charging.
Are you running out of hard drive space? Sometimes the hibernate mode messes up when it cannot save everything.
Have you virus/spamware scanned your machine lately?
I’d just shut it down, and wait for it to boot up.
If you are having to wait a long time for it to boot up, you either need more memory, or have too many services/apps running at startup....Or perhaps both.
Got to Start>Run type msconfig. Under the ‘Startup’ tab you will see a list of items that automatically run when the system boots up. Uncheck anything you don’t need to be running at all times, such as antivirus software/firewalls, ect. Uncheck everything else. When you’re done reboot. The next time the system boots up, you’ll receive a popup message, check the box, and click ‘Ok’.
No , and no .
Shoot it. 12 gauge, 00. Worked just fine with my last Acer. But that’s just me.
My two cents - connect the laptop to a monitor. I have seen the screen fail on laptops and act similar.
Just turn it off at the end of the day and go to work earlier.
I’ll have to check .
Our vice-principal told us to always leave computers on stand-by .
Plenty of hard drive space . As for virus scan , yes , yesterday .
I never use the battery ; always AC direct .
Unless you have a Mac.
Mac's don't overheat and are unbreakable.
In fact, I once dropped a Mac off the roof of the Sears Tower and when I went down to get it, it was fine.
LOL!
Good. I once had an Acer laptop overheat and trash the system board.
It belongs to the school ! lol
No guns in Japan anyway . : )
Click your battery icon > More Power Options > Choose when to turn off the display > Advanced Power Settings > Expand Hibernate After > Plugged in, change to never.
