Sherwood Township, Mich.
For the second time in two weeks, a victim of a pit bull attack in Sherwood Township was hospitalized Wednesday night.
Joshua John-Allen Hicks, 13, of Coldwater, was at his uncles home on Lilac Lane when a pit bull broke its chain and lunged at the boy. The reddish-colored dog bit and mauled the teen on both arms causing severe damage to his left one. It also bit Hicks on the chest and face. When the dog lunged at the boys uncle, he shot and killed the dog with a .357 pistol.
The complete story appears in the Friday, April 23, 2010 edition and is available at coldwaterdailyreporter.mi.newsmemory.com.

The article makes it sound like he was standing around while the nephew got mauled and only shot the dog when it attacked him. Probably not the case, of course.

I always suspected the pitbulls and hippos were in bed together...

I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.

Kinda hard to shoot the dog while it’s mauling the boy without risking also shooting the boy, don’tcha think? Of course, the lame stream media won’t paint that picture.

Do liability insurance applications have a “Do YOU own a pit bull?” question on them yet?

My hunch would be that the uncle didn’t have a clear shot until the dog stopped attacking his nephew and turned on him...

Yes.
I’ve read (dog magazines) that there are a number of breeds - pit bulls, chow-chows, mastiffs, german shepherds, borzoi, deerhounds - on lists that home owners insurance companies use to deny homeowners coverage.
Note: my insurance company said they would drop my coverage if we didn’t get rid of a trampoline in the backyard! They said the liability was astronomical if someone’s kid was hurt on it. Probably the same with a dog attack.

Even the MARINE CORPS has banned Pit Bulls from base housing. Also banned are Rottweilers, Dobermans, Chows and Wolf Hybrids.
I must vigorously protest this absurd effrontery to the Dogs of Peace. Only a true Jarhead would equate Pit Bulls ability to injure, with the other breeds mentioned.
