What you need to do is stop debating her and make her prove and defend her statements. Put HER on the defensive.

The one gov. program I have personally seen work better and more efficiently (since Obama got in) Is the VA.

Ask her:Who is the head of the VA? When were they appointed and by whom?

Michaels meds come in the mail, well before he is out, and he has mentioned (jokingly) that all he has to do is feign an illness and he could get whatever med he wanted.

Ask her: Do you honestly believe that this is a sign of efficiency?

As for gov. funded abortions, That isn't happening.

Ask her: What do you base this belief on? Have you read the bill?

However insurance funded abortions are a real thing. The premiums I pay to United Health Care are going to cover some womans abortion

Ask her:Do you pay premiums of your own free will?

(they would rather her have an abortion cuz it's cheaper for them then having her carry full term, not to mention delivery, pre natal care, etc...)

Ask her: Where did you get this info? Can you prove it?

Kinda like how 1 trillion of our tax dollars go to military spending (mostly mercenarys or contractors) I don't like the idea of my money being used to pay the $950 a day salary of a Blackwater mercenary who is killing Iraqi civilians...

Ask her: Where did you get this and can you prove any of it?

BTW how come I don't hear the tea party mention that?

You are correct, while I still have my sanity and we are still on speaking terms I think I’ll just let it go. We can talk about the weather :) that would be nice. Except she will then bring up global warming...lol I don’t know why my sister-in-law isn’t completely insane.

As a long time employee of the VA I can assure you that the VA does NOT work.

I’ve talked till I’m blue in the face and at the point of snatching myself bald. Hopefully she won’t have to find out just how wrong she is. I understand. And like I said, put her on the defensive. Ask her to prove what she's saying. She WILL stop when she can't do it. It may take a few times but when she can't find "proof" she'll quit in frustration. You may actually end up having pleasant conversations.

"You know what darlin, I don't care to argue this, as a matter of fact I don't care much at all. You see, I'm older than you are, I shall be long gone before the bill comes due on all this, unfortuantely, you will still be here to pay the bill. It will be you and your children and your children's children who will suffer the most. I was just trying to get you to help stop this thing before your future was destroyed. But, since you obviously don't care, then why should I fret.

Then I would drop the conversation and any time she wants to talk politics, just smile and say you have nothing more to offer her.

Good gravy, where to start? First of all you should teach her what “anecdotal” means in reference to her friend Mike and his VA experience. My mother worked at the VA for 20+ years and believe me, its as f****ed up as a system can get.

Secondly, I would give her some of the facts on military spending (in 2010, military spending will be approx $650 billion or 19% of the total federal budget, the vast majority of the other 81% being liberal redistribution programs).

As for the Iraq war itself: we are almost done and we’ll never have to pay for it again, nor will we have to pay for perpetual monitoring of no-fly zones or defenses for Kuwait and Saudi against Saddam or his sons. (One could argue that we may have saved money and lives by preventing a wider Middle East war by taking out Saddam). Maybe she didn’t think WW2 was a good investment either?

On the flip side, we are likely stuck with throwing money at liberal pyramid schemes Social Security, Medicare, and Obamacare forever or until the country collapses.

The last time she went to the VA lady the lady told her it couls take upwards of two years.the only thing we can assume when VA takes two years to help an Alzheimer patient is that VA works this way hoping the recipient will die before they have to send any money.

We were encouraged to take my father whohad cancer, in to apply for care. His prognosis was far shorter than the waiting list.
