Ok, this woman is driving me crazy. I can't take it anymore...lol So, do I just stop the communication, this is becoming exhausting right now to me. But, I feel I need to answer this. We have been going back and forth on health care bill and Obama's over spending, the lefts attempt to shut up the tea party. You get the idea. Here's her last email to me.
The one gov. program I have personally seen work better and more efficiently (since Obama got in) Is the VA. Since I've know Mike(is a vet on disability) I've seen him have to jump through hoops to get seen, not to mention the mess of paperwork--not to mention 3 yrs ago they sent a letter saying that some computers were stolen and "files" were missing (something smells funny to me...) and could he please "re-submit" information, needless to say his bennies were screwed up for a few months. Michaels meds come in the mail, well before he is out, and he has mentioned (jokingly) that all he has to do is feign an illness and he could get whatever med he wanted. So I believe gov. health care can work--I've seen it turn around in the VA--perhaps the problem is that medicaid, medicare and the VA are all seperate entities doing their own thing.
As for gov. funded abortions, That isn't happening. (not to mention I don't believe anyone is going to be careless about getting pregnant cuz they have gov. healthcare --kinda like saying I'll eat as much cotton candy as I want, I can always have a root canal or triple bypass later) However insurance funded abortions are a real thing. The premiums I pay to United Health Care are going to cover some womans abortion (they would rather her have an abortion cuz it's cheaper for them then having her carry full term, not to mention delivery, pre natal care, etc...) Kinda like how 1 trillion of our tax dollars go to military spending (mostly mercenarys or contractors) I don't like the idea of my money being used to pay the $950 a day salary of a Blackwater mercenary who is killing Iraqi civilians....BTW how come I don't hear the tea party mention that? That's a pretty big waste of money. We spend more on defense then the next big 15 superpowers combined--Are we really more safer?

The VA is quite effective now days. Most of its patients have died off. Most doctors are effective with dead patients. (WWII vets, the bulk of patients in the VA, are dying of old age).
More safer? Really a bright kid!

I work for the VA - the “improvements,” such as they are, have nothing to do with Obama but the agency head under President Bush. Obama has done absolutely nothing for the VA, and the fact is, I still would’nt want to be a patient there.
Do you really think you’ll win this battle with your niece? If not then why in the world would you get yourself so flusterated over something that in the long run you aren’t going to prevail. Life is made up of choices and this is one you can make and live with the outcome.
I’m so sorry you have to deal w/this! I can tell you the VA is still a disaster regardless of what your niece thinks. Ask her how she thinks VA doctors feel about not being allowed to refer their patients to a specialist which they are desperately in need of. Or how those patients feel about the outcome. She fails to realize that life isn’t all about her or her boyfriend (who doesn’t seem to mind abusing the system!).
You have much more patience than I do. I’m afraid I would have already, “eaten her lunch”. My best to you in your efforts:)
Don’t even think you can reason with these people. I have a brother just like this. Under George Bush all our taxes were going to the military. I just received an email from him today that said all our tax dollars now is going for infrastructure and we should be happy (even though he’s moaning about no jobs to be found). You can show them all the facts and figures and they still won’t believe you.
As far as the tea partiers, I’m tired of these stupid people denograting the Tea Party movement and I’m proud to stand with them. I’d ask her what’s wrong with lowering taxes or going to a fair tax structure? It doesn’t make any difference if they weren’t organized under George Bush. Does she think her taxes are too low? If she does ask her when she will send a donation to the US Treasury.
Yeah I’ve got lots of liberal family members and I just don’t talk politics with them. They know I’m a right winger and I simply use my own behavior to set a good example.
For those of us that are veterans other than WW2 era... I can say I saw the improvements starting about 7 to eight years ago.... before Obama...
The abortion analogy she used was absolutely appalling and betrayed a sinister indifference to human life. The little gem that I posted above is about the most ignorant and stupid thing I've read in along time.
This one needs a lot of guidance but if she were my niece she'd have to get it somewhere else. I'd have to cut her off to preserve my sanity.
I am a patient.... :) it ain’t all bad..... that being said if I had cancer or something like that I would look outside the VA for treatment

Another....tea partiers have had nothing to say because that’s not our focus, just like we don’t speak up about breast cancer or how our libraries might not have the books we want.

I am wondering how old your neice is. Time has a way of wising people up. I used to be a liberal until about he age of 25 or 26.
