“Your back yard” ping... are they still pullin’ buckets and buckets out of the Bakken Reserve, sweet and easy???

Funny how folks won’t listen to what the wildcatters in the patch have known for years... Turns out the wildcatters were right. Look at the revised estimates.

That’s just it. It looks like oil is ready to blast off $80@barrel. US oil demand has stopped falling and started to rise again along with the rest of the world. It may well be that production falls off in 18 months.

Ad hominem responses deserve to be ignored. However, here goes nothin’ ...

Firstly, Snopes isn’t the issue. Yes, they have an agenda, but then so, too, does FreeRepublic. Since SOME of the folks who hang out here are rude, unreasonable, ignorant or worse, should we dismiss the whole site and all it contains ?

Second, follow the links and see the source material. You don’t HAVE to swallow Snopes whole. I DID say ‘ ... start here: ... ‘. Just because Snopes have been shown to be wrong, biased, premature or whatever on SOME topics — mostly political — doesn’t mean squat.

You just don’t want to see Snopes cited for any reason on any topic ? Fine. Ignore the cite ... AND the site.

Doesn’t change the substance of what I posted and what you didn’t address in your ( sort of ) response.

Have a nice day, anyway ..

the trouble with bakkan is that the recoverable oil is only 3-4 billion barrels—which at 2million@day recovery rates only repressents a 10 year supply of oil. US oil imports run around 6 million barrels@ day. current US bakkan production is +-100,000 barrels @day.

So bakkan is helpful but its not a game changer—unlike current US technology enabled natural gas reserves.

I never attacked you personally, in fact I agree with most of what you said.

But I think you can spend $9.95 and go to Miss Clara’s website and get just as good info as Snopes.

It’s sort of a sad state of affairs that people read something then go running over to Snopes all frantic to find out if it’s true or not.

But then my generation had “Believe it or Not”, so whatever floats your boat...

Sorry, perhaps I could have said ‘straw man’ — switching the topic to Snopes instead of oil reserves. Same difference.

I didn’t see ME as the object of your comments, and I was merely trying to reintroduce oil over Snopes as the topic.

In any case, you think we more or less agree. Cool ...

503 is the total oil Locked in Shale.

4.3 is the oil produceable by drilling without retorting the shale.

The only reason not to pump it NOW is to use everybody else’s up first, to corner the market. But by then we’ll be too broke to pump!

All of you are missing one cogent point. The Baaken will produce good crude, ( notice the word crude) after that is a refining process. There in lies the problem, our refineries are operating at about 83% of capacity. We do not have the refining capability to refine all of the gas and oil products that the U.S. uses. Much of the imported fuel is finished products, ( ie gasoline) ready to deliver to the filling station. We cannot refine enough, we have no plans to build any new refineries, we are currently closing down old low producing refineries. Egeo no matter how much oil we produce our refining ability is behind our daily use.

Agreed, and that should be the first energy problem worked on when (and if) we get back in charge. Update the old, low producers to overcome the lefty weeping, wailing and lawsuits first, then see what need remains.

If we had drilled long ago and were producing I could have one of these:

Some Saudis own 40 exotic cars.

Why can't we just have one?

Drill ye tarriers drill

We could triple domestic crude oil production before hitting the limits of our refineries.

We don’t have the capacity to reach 100% of our refined products but we could do far more than we do today.
