According to USGA.com, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is among the many celebrities who have applied to compete in U.S. Open qualifiers this year. The list includes John Smoltz, Ryan Longwell, Billy Joe Tolliver, Shane Rawley and former NHL and 2002 Olympic silver medalist goalie Mike Dunham.
Romo has made attempts to qualify in the last three U.S. Open tournaments but has failed

So, old Tony must have a USGA handicap of at most 2, to enter.
Then he has to get by Local Qualifying(36 holes in one day); then regional qualifying(also 36 holes in one day).
Good luck, Tony, you’re gonna need it.
Romo is a good QB, and doesn’t deserve the wrath of s__t he gets in the media. Is he Payton Manning. No way, but there is only one guy that can do what he does.
Romo has performed pretty well and without a great receiving corp. With the addition of Dez Bryant this year (assuming he pans out), Romo does need to do a deep drive into the playoffs to get the final monkey off his back. He performed well in December last year and got to the 2nd week of the playoffs. In the next two years he needs to get to the championship game at least, and perform well on that stage, or he will cement his legacy - right or wrong - as a 2nd rate QB.
Good luck! Approximately nine thousand entrants. But somebody has to win!
He is a second rate QB and a 4th rate golfer ... just like Ed “Too Tall” Jones was a second rate DE and a fourth rate boxer.
“...just like Ed Too Tall Jones was a second rate DE and a fourth rate boxer....”
Too Tall being a boxer was a joke. As for being a second rate DE......PUH-LEASE. Double teamed on EVERY down. Fine. That just let Randy “Manster” White, Larry Cole, and Harvey Martin get the lion’s share of stops. When any one of those three got doubled, Too Tall was more than willing to take up the slack. Second rate my a$$.
Good luck Tony.
Phil Mickelson is busting his 6.5 deg driver usually about 320-325 yards blowing 20 to 30 yards past Tiger. Phil is 6 years older then Tiger and is playing great.
Meanwhile, 20 year old Rory McIlroy of N. Ireland who is about 5’10” if he is that tall, versus 6’4’ Phil, hit a 353 yard drive for an eagle on Sunday. The long driver guys usually hit 350+ yard drives.
Rory shot a 66 on Saturday and a 62 on Sunday. Phil was on his game but Rory played out of his mind.
Golf has 20 year old Rory, 18 year old Ryo from Japan who shot a 58 on Sunday at a tourney in Japan and 16 year old Matteo of Italy who made the cut at the Masters and British Open last year when he just turned 16.
These new kids are insanely good.
So now he can suck at two sports.
Romo is a good QB

I believe my father would have referred to your statement as ‘damning with faint praise’.
Romo is playing QB for a perennial wannabe SB favorite team. Last year, IIRC, they were consensus to make the SB.
I confess that I put him in the same league as Phillip Rivers. Considerable talent, considerable natural ability, but I always get the nagging feeling that they will do something boneheaded to cost themselves the game. Aaron Rogers strikes me the same way.
Until Peyton won the big one, folks whispered behind his back. Then he won the big one. No one really goes there anymore.
Romo needs to do the same or we will see pictures of Jessica Simpson juxtaposed with him fumbling the snap for time immemorial.
It kills me to see the drives local high school kids are hitting who don’t weigh 120 pounds.

Cowboys Romo a step closer to playing US Open
May 20, 10:49 pm EDT
CARROLLTON, Texas (AP)Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is a step closer to competing in the U.S. Open golf tournament.
Romo was among seven golfers who moved on to the sectional round following a round at The Honors Club of Dallas. Romo shot a 2-under 69, which put him in a four-man playoff for three spots.
Romo advances to a 36-hole qualifier June 7 at The Woodlands. If hes among the top finishers there, he would have a spot in the seasons second major tournament June 17-20 at Pebble Beach.
Last week, Romo advanced to the Monday qualifier for the Byron Nelson Championship, but had to drop out because it conflicted with a Cowboys workout. The first round of the Byron Nelson was Thursday.
Theres no Cowboys conflict June 7.

It takes an amazing athlete to be at the top of his/her sport in TWO separate events. Golf and football are not all that related. This speaks to Tony’s amazing abilities.
That said....GO SEAHAWKS
