After King’s okay to change the ending of the film version “The Mist”, I haven’t picked up a book of his.
I agree with others that “The Stand” book (the re-issue) has no peers in post-apocalypse stories (which I love). And yeah, Molly was a poor choice in the mini-series. I just realized a few weeks back that the actor who played Harold in the mini-series was Corin Nemec, of Stargate SG-1 and ScyFy channel crappy movie fame. It was one of those slap-the-forehead moments.
King has talked at length about the movies made from his books and how little he cares what they do to the story. In his view no matter how bad they are the book still exists and is available, and the making of the movies help keep the books available, and the book is what he wrote and cares about. To him the movies are basically ads for the books, ads he gets paid to allow them to make, so even if he doesn’t like the changes on a personal level he won’t say no because “the book still exists”.
