No player can do it alone. Jordan had Pippen (one of the 50 greatest ever), and Kobe had Shaq (one of the 50 greatest ever). And the current Laker team has some darn good players around Kobe.
Plus both teams had very clutch role players who complimented the superstars.
Look, Jackson is a GREAT coach. He's great enough to know how to coach superstars and win with them.
James has a completely different game than Jordan, or Kobe for that matter. I don’t think you can stick James with a good # 2 utility guy and some other parts and get a title. He could play the Robin to Durant or Kobe or Howard’s Batman and get a title like Pippen.
James has to decide what position he plays. Is he Magic or Jordan or what. He is very good, but he is almost too much of a utility tweener. He isn’t a fantastic great point, 2, 3 or 4. He is just really good at all of them. Whereas Kobe, Jordan, Durant and Howard OWN their roles and dominate the role.
James is more of a Pippen needing a Jordan than a Jordan needing a Pippen.
Just my opinion, and I realize it is the minority one.
And yes of course if Saban was coaching him he’d have 4 rings by now :)

Exactly. And to be honest how many people can even name the guys who have coached the Cavs since LeBron has been there?
That’s why more and more I follow soccer. These are guys who play for the love of the game, there are no prima donnas, and there are now some great American players like Landon Donovan and Tim Howard. Today I am probably more passionate about the US National Soccer team than any professional sports team.
People who market athletes really need to take a stronger look at our soccer players for marketability over the thugs that permeate the other sports.
Not to defend James too much for his poor performance, but Cleveland has assembled the worst supporting cast of players I have ever seen for any suppposed “contender”. When James leaves the game, the rest of the team looks completely lost and cannot score. This is probably the main reason James will leave, is that the rest of the team is comprised of “players” who cannot play.
I would concede that watching an MLS game is boring, but a good English Premier League match, or UEFA Champions League match is certainly not boring.
But for Americans it does take an investment to learn about the teams and history of the great European clubs, but once you do, it will draw you in.
I still say, coaching matters.

Yeah! For the last 2 years! The NBA tried to "make" a champion with an "award." Sorry, doesn't work that way.
It's a team sport. There's a reason why Magic Johnson started winning championships when he went pro and Michael Jordan did not even though Jordan always had higher personal stats.
The other reason why a Magic Johnson was more valuable was that he was a team player. He electrified both his team and the fans. It was exciting to watch (especially with 17,504 other people in the building).
Larry Bird was the same, but being a long long time Lakers fan, I hate the Celtics.
