I expect TPTB will find a way to crash the market in time for the elections. The oil industry is strongly Conservative, and would back candidates who are not aligned with the Socialists in DC. Of course, the people will howl if 'cap and trade' are imposed on an 'up' market, so that works for the thieves in DC as well. When the price goes back up, the politicians and the MSM will blame the oil companies while they sit back, fat off their increased rake.

It has worked before, and the people bought the blather instead of doing their homework. As a rule, the government profits off a barrel of domestic oil are double to triple what the oil company profits are, without risking any venture capital.
