PARIS (AP) -- A thief stole five paintings possibly worth hundreds of millions of euros, including major works by Picasso and Matisse, in a brazen overnight heist at a Paris modern art museum, police and prosecutors said Thursday.
The paintings disappeared early Thursday from the Paris Museum of Modern Art, across the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower in one of the French capital's most chic and tourist-frequented neighborhoods.

They look pretty good in my living room... and that Matisse... perfect view from the “toilette”.

You know, they could have stolen a Rembrandt or something and that would have been a tragedy. I admit much modern art leaves me cold, although the Braques is attractive.
Several years ago a beautiful Vermeer was stolen and I wish they would find that.

Pretty soon, the headline will be “Thief steals loaf of bread worth hundreds of millions of Euros.”

I think the thief broke a padlock and window to steal the art work. Certainly discredits Oceans 11, 12, 13, etc... They have it on footage but the guards did not respond to the breakin. But at least they are going to put the right person to solve the case.

Art thefts seem to happen with fair regularity. Why don’t they have adequate security if those ugly paintings are worth so much?
