Centrist GOP Sen. Collins will vote to repeal 'Don't ask, don't tell'

Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) will back a repeal of the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

The Associated Press said Collins will support the legislation crafted in a deal announced last night that would abolish the military's ban on openly gay and lesbian servicemembers.

Collins's announcement gives key Republican backing to the measure, spearheaded by Democrats.

Other top Republicans have expressed skittishness toward the repeal at this point. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, lamented an effort to move the issue too quickly, while Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) said it is "premature" to move forward with the repeal at this point.

As sexual assault(including abnormally high levels of same sex assault versus the general population) and stds are increasing in the military we need to waste time allowing open homosexuality in the ranks? This is just another example of irrational stupidity coming out of Washington DC.

Centerist? She is a liberal, not a “centerist” or a “moderate” - a liberal who ought to be run out of office along with Snowe.

I love the use of the term “centrist” to describe Collins. This show the paradigm the media comes from. All liberal Republicans are moderate or centrist. All conservative democracts are described as “conservative” but never “moderate” or “centrist.”

At the same time Senator Collins is not expected to move 10 to 15 flamboyant homosexuals to her home to live with for 3 years.

It will be interesting to see what Democrats support this, especially those up for reelection in 2010.

If you want Collins out of there, there needs to be a Conservative Republican who can beat her in the Republican Primary.

That man is Paul LePage.

But he needs to become Governor first.

After 4 years in charge in Augusta, he could challenge Collins from that seat.

The Primary, with 7 candidates, is 10 days away, on June 8, and Paul LePage could use your campaign contributions and if you're in Maine, your vote.
