I turned right off 130 heading south because I wanted to get over to 38 and ended up driving through Camden. I swore I was teleported to Nogales, Mexico.
It was the main highway. I’m not sure which one that was though.
I recently sat in evening traffic crossing the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge, headed east. That damned bridge (specifically, the approach from the west bank) shakes and shudders to an alarming degree.
And then down-river, there's the Huey P. Long bridge, which feels solid enough but still scares the daylights out of many drivers. It's appropriate, though, as a warning of the dangers that lurk on the road to the south. Back in the '70s, there was a bumper sticker that was popular in the New Orleans area: "Pray for me; I drive on Hwy. 90".
There's a vision of the future of the US. ;-)
50 is not scary and part of the point is not seeing anyone...You want scary go back 25 years to Highway 17 to Santa Cruz from Los Gatos.Agree, and agree.
Highway 50 is beautiful in its' austerity. And the crazy Santa Cruz drivers are what makes me afraid of Highway 17. Half of them, when you look down into their car from a higher vehicle, have bongs between their legs!
The road from St. Ignatius, Montana to the Canadian border. Definitely #1, especially on a windy night.
