Did somebody say beer?
Yes, it was in St. Louis. It’s just like going through an airport trying to get in there. Worse yet, the line forms outside the door, so people get hot and cranky!
Aiming fluid!
I have my priorities....
Sin sesos y ojos.
You have to have priorities. No argument from me.
You might expand a bit on that, Lockbar. Starting with “this revolver has been a mainstay of police departments for nearly 100 years,” or “this is one of the most widely sold revolvers ever,” or “they’re very easy to find in good to excellent condition as a used gun.”
The design is so durable that S&W *still* makes this revolver. It was first introduced in 1899. MSRP for a new one is over $800. I’ve seen them in gunshops here in the intermountain west for as low as $195, with some holster wear - nothing that a new blue job wouldn’t cure. High end of the range was over $300 for serial #’s that put them in the late 60’s, and little to no wear.
The only other thing I’d add is that prior to being renamed as the “Model 10” in the late 50’s, they were called the “M&P” or “Military & Police” revolver.
Yeah, just the cheeky bits
Flour or corn?
Corn with this nice BBQ sauce and diced onion
The fortunate thing was that our class of shooters had two doctors (a pediatrician and a neurologist) and a trauma nurse as students in the class, so there was immediate medical attention once they got him out of the men’s room at the range. The trauma nurse just barged into the men’s room and found him holding a wad of paper towels over the entry wound. There was no exit. At this, she became very alarmed.
From what I heard the next week, he was on the OR table for a pretty long time as the surgeons looked for all possible perfs in his intestines from a .22 pill zipping around inside him.
When he was taken away, he was telling the doctors and trauma nurse that he simply could not believe that a) he had a Purple Heart from his service in Vietnam, b) as a result of being shot in combat with an AK-47, c) that in Vietnam, he walked to the rear after being shot, but d) that he was being air evac’ed (with news crews in attendance) for being shot in the gut by a .22LR in civilian life, accidentally, e) by a very cute blond gal.
The irony of the whole situation seemed to utterly gall him. ;-)
Diced onion, nice touch.
My wife was not happy with my new hobby, but after a couple of weeks she actually engaged in a discussion about her joining me on one of my range visits. Not sure how she would do, she commented, "What if someone there laughs at me?"
My response, "Nobody ever laughs at someone with a gun in their hand, especically a woman."
That line got her to the range yesterday and she wants to go again!
I likes it
THR, http://www.thehighroad.org/index.php , is a decent gun forum and would likely be a better forum for more specific and technical details on a firearm purchase than FR.
For my personal opinion, A revolver is a good choice as a first handgun purchase. It is much simpler, reliable, and easier to clean. A shotgun is also a good choice for most of those same reasons, and longguns tend to be a bit less of a hassle.
Be sure you go to your local gun shop, whether it’s Academy or a firearms-only shop, and actually handle several firearms to get a feel for them. If you find some you like, be sure to check ammo prices on its ammunition if you are price-sensitive at all. If you can’t afford too much, think about buying a used one. Bring a friend who knows firearms, and have him help check out the gun first to make sure its in decent shape. Also know the value of what you look at so you don’t get gouged.
Are you looking for just a range gun, something to shoot for fun? Or are you actually looking for something to carry concealed? Ruger’s LCR is a very good choice if so.
Bueno. Tacos con barbacoa y Tecates por todo.
They got this nice carnitas as well (I feel like i am hijacking this thread) Ya put that in flour tortillas with the onions and cilatro, a splash of lime and the salsa verde.
