With regards to the spent casings landing on you, here’s a hard lesson I’ve taught to all my female friends and students over the last 18 years or so of taking guests and students to the range:
Wear a blouse or shirt that comes up to your neck. Wear safety glasses that come in tight to your face. And lastly, but very importantly, wear shoes that completely cover your feet. Fashion isn’t your top consideration here.
Spent casings can be quite hot and burn you when they bounce off the partition walls at indoor ranges or off posts/benches at outdoor ranges. I saw one man get shot in the gut by a gal who had NO intention of doing so because she became wildly distracted by a hot piece of brass that went down her shirt, lodged in her bra, then was dropped down onto her feet as the woman was pulling at her shirt. She was wearing only flip-flops. It was at this point she discharged the pistol at the poor fellow who was trying to help her. He lived, but not without getting a air evac from the range to the hospital.
The young lady in question had been a thoroughly competent and safe shooter until such time as a piece of hot brass went down her blouse.
.22LR casings are some of the most apt to get bounced into places to cause burns, in my experience. I’ve seen them get bounced behind loose-fitting safety glasses, for example.
