Migrants in Mexico are facing a "major human rights crisis" as the authorities fail to tackle widespread abuses, Amnesty International has warned.

The human rights group said officials ignored or even played a part in the rape, kidnap, and murder of migrants, often carried out by criminal gangs.

Just read a horrifying article on the abuse that South Americans typically endure when passing through Mexico to reach the US. According to this BBC correspondent, rape is so common that women attempting to cross Mexico into the US are advised to get injections to prevent conception. 10,000 South Americans were kidnapped primarily for ransom during a 6 month period in 2009. Mexican government officials are complicit and it’s open season on South Americans attempting to cross Mexico. Ironic that so many public figures use their pulpit to declare that they are ‘ashamed’ of Arizona for its treatment of illegals and not one word is said of Mexico’s participation and tolerance of the condoned abuse of immigrants/aliens merely crossing through their country. I’ll include the BBC link to the article below. Here’s a quote that caught my eye:

“Many here think that, when it comes to migration issues, Mexico first has to clean up its own act, our correspondent says.”

Mexico has much to answer for regarding their own, and other nationals. Instead, we will hear endless denunciations of “racist” Americans. Thanks for posting.
