KOKOMO, Ind. -- A 9-year-old Howard County girl critically injured by a pit bull over the weekend died at an Indianapolis hospital on Thursday, police said.
The attack happened in the 4600 block of East County Road 200 South on Saturday, said Howard County Sheriff Marty Talbert.
The girl, Savannah Gragg, underwent surgery at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, but died Thursday afternoon.
Police said that Savannah was opening a door at the home to let the dog outside when it jumped on her and knocked her to the floor, biting her on the neck and shaking her violently.
"The child suffered a lacerated trachea, which resulted in a lack of oxygen to the brain," Talbert said in a news release Thursday evening. "Doctors determined the child was brain dead shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday."
Family members told police that the dog had never shown aggression before.

A 1,000.00 YEARLY Pit Bull tax should solve the problem. Democrats solve all issues this way.
The people whose dogs are responsible for these attacks would pay no more attention to the tax than they do to the training of their dogs.

I’m no fan of pitt bulls, but agree there might be something more to this — at the very least, it would’ve had to be a good sized and angry pitt, and that must’ve been a very petite 9 year old for it to so quickly knock her down and go for the neck just as she opened the door.

I cannot understand anyone having this type of animal in their possession...The defenders of this breed hardly ever show any concern for the victim, its always some other reason, and not the inbred instinct of the animal....
A child getting their throat ripped out means nothing to the majority of them....that is pathetic...

Perhaps you should do some research on this case and find out what the “something more to this” is and let us know..
If the parents are so stupid they didn’t know about the dangers of a pit bull and a young child, or if they did know and took their chances with her life, I wouldn’t bet they’d do it differently. Their comments about its not having shown aggression before sound self-serving and are reminiscent of “he was a good boy who fell in with bad company” as the murdering thug is led off in cuffs.
Another defender heard from, and a chiwawa is as good at pointing birds in the field as a pointer if properly trained... /s
LOL I miss read your post and thought you said the owners should be spayed or neutered...I agree the dogs certainly should, not sure about the owners. :O)

Better that they turn on their owners other than some innocent kid walking down the street or someone out walking their own dog...I agree with you 100%
