I’ve seen people achieve a relatively cohesive analogy...but that wasn’t one of them.

Obviously, people like you are presenting the danger to the public, and are too irresponsible to recognize your own contribution. Even after someone is killed or maimed, your type continues to issue excuses and claims of innocence.

That is why we have criminal law, courts, judges, and juries. That is why civilized societies enact laws against a wide variety of behaviors that result in death and serious injury.

I don’t know what more there could be to the story that would make it any different. Opening a door, having a piece of food, stepping on it’s paw, bumping into it, whatever....a dog should NOT react like this.......ever!

I have 6 dogs right now, one being a pitbull. The clarify, this is not a breed I would own, my son left for the Army and left here with me. I am struggling to find someone to take her. As sweet as she is to us, I wouldn’t take her anywhere near people.

My 2 German Shorthairs, I take everywhere, to ballgames, they play with the kids, etc. When my son (13) has friends over, she is in the crate. She has never shown aggression but like all of these stories....I don’t want a 1st time.

I am really struggling with this because I really don’t know what to do with her.

Its eventually going to affect enough people that there will be a nationwide lynch mob out patrolling neighborhoods ready to take away any pit bulls and have them put to sleep.

Myself I think this is the breed of dog that can only be legally owned for certain qualified people or for specific job duties.

I had a pit bull problem for years from my neighbors, they eventually moved away, pit bulls were getting expensive to replace for them.

Here’s a link to Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pets.
They provide foster homes for the animals of deployed soldiers.

http://guardianangelsforsoldierspet.org/

If they can’t help you out, try your local bully group. There are probably several in Georgia, here’s a link to a rescue: http://www.ourpack.org/fightingdogs.html

Good luck.

When have ~I~ ever offered a “claim of innocence” or an “excuse” for attacks upon people?

The -people- who own these dogs should be prosecuted for criminal neglience at the least and involuntary manslaughter, at the best.

I contribute *nothing* to the problem because *I* literally don’t have a dog in this fight, not being a pit [or any other “bully type” owner] so your claims of my so-called “irresposibility” are little more than a red herring desperately dragged in to deflect the facts and statistics I presented.

I am simply trying to -educate- the ignorant regarding the “slippery slope” of “breed bans”.

Anyone who is capable of seeing the bigger picture understands that these are little more than attempts at emotional/social engineering by liberal “animal rights tyrants” with the sole purpose of eradicating *all* pets, eventually.

This has nothing to do with concern; it is ALL about
-control-.

“That is why civilized societies enact laws against a wide variety of behaviors that result in death and serious injury.”

Yeah.
Roe V Wade worked wonders for those maimed, mutilated murdered children, and FYI, more kids are killed by drug and gang related shootings than pit bulls.

Where is the hue and cry over *that*?

Why aren’t we out hunting down and killing grizzly and black bears, coyotes and mountain lions?

*Some* of them kill people and pets and there’s no way to predict *which* ones will do it so by your logic, we should just kill them all.

[Because the liberals *love* the romanticized ‘wild animals’, that’s why and would pitch a hissy fit if those wild beasts were hunted down and killed]

*Thousands* of bully breeds compete in AKC events every year and not a single one of them has ever attacked anyone, yet they will also be affected by these arbitrary bans.

Would you persecute and penalize fine, upstanding citizens who breed magnificent and emotionally balanced specimens of the breed because of the deeds of scummy thugs?

Penalize good, decent people who have devoted untold sums of money and time to breeding out the ‘undesirable’ characteristics of their breeds, to the benefit of all?

People who do not pervert the nature of their dogs by goading them into becoming fighters?

Why should they pay for the sins of the relatively few?

I am a member of several AKC breed clubs [none of them “bully breeds”] and have seen the inside machinations of the anti-pet lobbyists firsthand.

I have had to comfort those whose pampered, expensive show dogs were “set free” by animal rights terrorists, only to run right into traffic and be killed because “a dead dog is better than an enslaved one”.

[two of my breed clubs have taken to posting -guards- by the dog pens while the handlers are showing their other dogs to prevent the loosing of their dogs by the anti-pet freaks]

-That- is the key to very-old-but-seemingly-new crusade against the ‘scary breed’ flavor of the month.

They always start with the most “obvious” breeds, then slip in the “mixes” and then just generalize anything that even remotely resembles the mixes.

Then they move on to the next-most-scary-breed.
[ad infinitum]

Having watched this for almost 36 years now, I know how the “game” is played.

[eventually, whatever breed *you* prefer -will- come into their sights, perhaps for a different reason, but the result will be the same]

The answer is and always has been, go after the owners/backyard breeders of vicious dogs with extreme prejudice.

Enforce the laws that -already- exist in every state rather than creating “new” useless ones.

It never fails to shock me that, here, in this bastion of “small government” and “mind your own damn business” ideology, I find irrational, tyrannical mindsets I’d expect to find on DU.

That the very same people who have to gall to piss and moan when liberal dictators arbitrarily [”for the good of the children”] take away yet another of *their* “cherished freedoms” astonishes me no end.

It is then that this forum seems schizophrenic.
We cannot pick and choose which “personal freedoms” are acceptable to lose...at least not without being hypocrites.

There are only two things on this planet I will fight for, unconditionally; kids and animals.

I -hate- it when some “adult” is responsible for brutality and injury to either.

Were it up to me, I would summarily imprison the owners and send the dogs to be “deprogrammed”, ~if~ possible.
If not, then humanely euthanized.
[and if Vicks’ canine victims all found loving homes, save one, then *most* of them could be “rehabbed”]

The dumb animals are not to blame; the dumbass owners are.

“Your type”?

What exactly *is* “my type”?

I can’t wait to hear the reply to ~that~ one.

“Myself I think this is the breed of dog that can only be legally owned for certain qualified people or for specific job duties.”

Which firearms do you think the average citizen should be “legally qualified” to own?

These figures should help you decide:

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/More_kids_killed_by_guns_in_0613.html

Where in the constitution is the guideline for making that judgement call on dogs?

“I had a pit bull problem for years from my neighbors, they eventually moved away, pit bulls were getting expensive to replace for them.”

If I’d killed people’s dogs, I’d at least have the shame to hide the fact.

HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!

You're a little thin skinned eh? BWHAHAHA!

Thread after thread, day after day, you [and the other sycophants] bully, ridicule, bait, taunt and hyperventilate. You have become what you disparage. These are not qualities that I would ever ****envy**** in any person. Project much?

Nice try though. Nice try. ;D

Gear for the thin-skinned among us....

Your compatriots don’t just joke about it; if their claims are to be believed, they poison dogs with alarming frequency. Or is it okay if the dog is a pit bull?

“HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!HAHAHA!

Fake hysterical laughter, much?
[the excessive repetition and stuck caps lock key is the dead giveaway, for future reference]

My skin is remarkably thick.
[but nowhere nearly as “thick” as my opponents seem to be]

In fact, it enables me to keep cheerfully goading people such as yourself into making asses of themselves by posting over done and over wrought outbursts of phony “laughter”.

Since ~I~ have no qualms about people seeing what I look like, it would seem to imply that I’m *quite* secure, thank you.

[unlike those who hide their true visages for fear of public ridicule]

Et tu, Daffy?

[now run along or I shall be forced to taunt you a second time]

Not only that, the actually brag about their personal “successes” and how they advised their neighbors to do it.

Some admit, others imply that they have so killed many of their neighbor’s dogs, the neighbors moved away.

Yet others tell us all how to go about attaching burlap bags to car wheels so the dogs chasing their car will grab it and break their necks.

Nice company to keep.

If for no other reason, I will continue to oppose them simply to set myself *apart* from them, lest anyone mistake me for being capable of that depth of intentional evil and cruelty.

If ~that~ is what they consider the “moral high ground”, I want -none- of it.

Do you ever wonder what a person is *really* capable of in private, if they will admit to committing those sadistic deeds in public?

[sorta makes your skin crawl, doesn't it?]

Strawman all.

Do you deny bullying, ridiculing, baiting, taunting and hyperventilating to/about Chet, on an almost daily basis? Calling in your pitbully-dogs to tag team?

You just got your thin-skin pricked upthread. Deny that too? Reread your reaction. Funny that. ------------------
